View Full Version : Engine tight?

I've just got my EP550, CF 3d Pro.
I've just put in the engine, and have watched the Finless videos.
My engine is as tight as hell compared to his! Mine the 1100kw one. Would this make a huge difference? He seems to spin the gears freely once the engine is in. I can't. Even with the engine out, it was hard to swist the shaft (that goes into the engine).
Does this seem normal??

without a pinion on the motor it will be hard to spin, the motor shaft, if you can grab it it will be more like notchy as you go from magnet to magnet, but in the heli or with a pinion gear you should be able to spin it. by spinning the main gears you should be able to give them a spin and the motor should go around a few times, it will have resistance though. it sound like you might have a problem, but also remember the outer can of this motor turns and is part of the shaft, the only part of the motor that does not turn is the bottom that bolts to the heli. so if this outer can is rubbing on anything that will make it hard to turn. I have also seen many people grab the motor and try to turn it not realizing what they are holding is part of the main shaft, so it won't turn.

The 1100 kv motor has a serious set of magnets in it as apposed to the much softer magnets in the 850kv motor. However, the gear train without the motor installed should run freely.

Mine was also very hard to turn when new, but it are easier to turn now, after 4-5 flights.
Finless was doing it with a 850kv motor I believe.

Thanks guys.
I think it's a new engine thing. It is extremely tight, but yes, does turn from magnet to magnet. With the engine in, it's hard to try spin the wheel with my finger. I think the meshing distance is OK, but I will redo that today to set my mind at ease.
Thanks guys.
