Hi Guys. I've got a theory to my problem which may be totally left field but the problem is starting to bug me. My Hyper 50 which has had around 5 gallons of fuel through it is difficult to start in the morning. The motor just seems very tight, but after the first run its very easy to start. Are all of these motors tight when they are cold?? I would have thought they would be looser when cold and as the internals expand when getting warmer they tighten up a little. My theory was castor oil.. I was talked into using castor additive in my fuel but I think it may be gumming up the engine and hence this is why it is tight when cold because the castor has "set" on the internals making it more difficult to move... just a thought. Cheers Ed.

Yes the castor could be part of the problem. As for your theory about the cold. All material contracts when it is cold and expands when it is hot. So the clearances in the engine virtually stay the same at all temperatures.

Don't know why anyone would use fuel with castor in it in a a heli engine. Unless that is all that is available to them. All the fuels produced today have oil packages that have top notch lubricants in them. It is not like 30 years ago when castor was about all that was available. No way would I use fuel with Castor as an oil additive in any engine today.

Castor oils gum up after a while. You can just clean this off. At least its a better rust protector then synthetic oils.
