Hey guys, I have pretty much figured everything there is with my heli, but I simply cannot figure out which TAIL servo to get... I would like a servo that I can bolt up in the stock location with the stock pushrod, but is good enough so that when I get the microheli push rod and tail as a later mod, I can bolt up the servo on the tail boom.

the cyclic servos that I have are the s3114 futabas, and would it be a good idea to have another one of those on the tail? Also, is the S9650 a servo that i can bolt up in the stock spot?
I need a servo that is $50 or less and it might be nice to have functionality of the futaba gy401 specialized servo burner toggle thingy... :rolling

i'm running the same servos as you on ail/ele/pitch. on the tail, one of those will work but a faster servo is better. even with servos as small as the 3114's are, it's hard to get it so that when you give rudder input (or the gyro does) the top of the servo horn hits the chassis. i strongly recomend getting the boom mount, and it's only like $12. i'm using a 3115 on the tail, slightly more torque then the 3114's and i think the same speed, maybe a tad faster. either way, the servo is fast enough for what i do. sorry, i can't answer your question about the 401/9650 as i use a 240, which sucks imho.

how long have you had your heli? one tip, remove the tail slider/shaft assy and shine that shaft up. the black oxide coating sucks big time. after that it'll slide nice and easy. also, when removeing any factory threadlocked screw (most of the ones going into aluminum) use your soldering iron to heat it up first. they use some superduper strength threadlocker and i've broken/stripped more screws then i should have. oh, ditch the stock fiberglass blades for align 325 woodies. i've yet to talk to someone who has actually had luck with balancing them.

Hey there,

Thanks alot, I think I may go with the tail boom servo, the steel line link is really easy to bend and the CF one is stiff as a rock. If I get enough funds, ill go for the 9650, but as of yet, its on a "well see" basis. I already replaced 95%+ of the stock screws with RTL hex screws. I think that the stock blades are pretty much balanced for me, I have the Heli-max balancer and its very accurate...Only problem is that I have used a fairly high amount of ELECTRICAL tape to perfectly balance them.. I don't think im very comfortable with it having so much tape, but for now they will be good. I am going to get some CF blades and some align woodies as soon as funds allow me to. For now I just need to get this thing in the air, I have been looking at it for Waaaay too long. Anyway, I'm around 90% finished in terms of all parts needed. I shall post some nice pics as soon as shes finished

i hope the stock blades work for you, but with mine, if i have perfect balance and track on align woodies, and then install the helimax stockers being balanced, the tracking is off. junk imho.
