Good thing I won the pilots drawing for one of these at Birmingham today! I can't wait. I'm going to give Greg a call on Monday to make the needed arrangements. I'll be putting my 450 under the knife to sacrifice servos and receiver and Charlie's throwing in one of their special 6s packs and blades so all I need to buy is the motor and ESC/BEC. Score!!!

Thanks Charlie and Greg and all the fine folks from Outrage/Rotorworks and Heli Direct. This thing's gonna rock! :YeaBaby:

Edit: Didn't bring Greg's number with me to work so it'll wait until tonight or, most likely, tomorrow.

It's the best 450 size heli I've ever seen on the market. It's on my list of got to haves.

Current Specs of this heli is

Length: 620mm
Height : 210mm (including head button 203mm without)
Main Rotor Diameter: 775mm
Thrust Bearing in BladeGrips
Main Blade Length: 350mm
150T Main Gear
106T Auto Rotation Tail Drive Gear
25T Tail Drive Gear
Ball Raced Double Pivot Tail Control System
Fiberglass Painted canopy

Current power System
6s1p 1300 mah 25c Test pack 210g
Medusa 28-040-1700kv with 11t pinion
Hobby wing 40esc
Hobby wing BEC 5/6v 3amp
HS65MG Servos on Cyclic
Logictech 2100t Gyro w/3100g servo
Current RTF Weight 880g

Pitch 13 Degrees + and - (15+/- Achievable)
Cyclic pitch 7 Degree with Above pitch (9 Degree Max Achievable with max pitch)

Interesting. The size is comparable to a T450 but the blade length and RTF weight are both larger. It's not clear to me how the longer blades clear the tail rotor given that the overall length is 620mm vs 650mm for the T450 but I have no doubt they do. I guess perhaps the frame is shorter and the tailboom longer.

At 880g/350mm mains it has much the same disk loading as a T450SE (780g/325mm) and running on 6s ought to give it some punch so I doubt the extra weight is an issue.

It doesn't seem to me that there will be a lot of choice around for either 350mm blades or low capacity 6s packs so definitely an "enthusiast" heli rather than one for the masses :dontknow:

I saw this heli perform up close at the B'ham fun fly several times. It was great! Low temps after a flight without thermal slow down. :smokin:

man, my 450se is on it's last leg and i'm about ready to upgrade to a new frame or go with a totally different platform. this G5 is very appealing, but the 350mm blades are kind of scaring me away. i'm just now getting into 3d, so i go through a lot of blades. so i have a few questions:
1. how would it fly with 325 blades?
2. could you run a shorter boom to compliment the 325's?
3. would you offer a 325 based kit with a shorter boom?
4. am i making to big of a deal about the 350's?
5. will the head assy be available separately?

basically, the way i look at is that blades are my biggest cost right now. 325 woodies at 8$ a pop aren't too bad, but 40$ 350 blades are a killer. jmho. maybe i'm looking at it all wrong.

Do we have some release date in mind?
What will the parts availability be like?

I'm ready to build :) Summers coming....

Brock,

I am hoping very soon the first run of kits will be in the US in 2 weeks I will be going through them and some of the Team pilots will be doing some final testing so we exspect cross finger early May

I guess that makes me kind of like a team pilot then huh? Seeing as I'll be getting one around the same time. :D

Guess I need to start putting together my final shopping list for Greg. Man I can't wait to build this thing. I'll be sure to provide detailed testing reports and flight analysis.

Someone mentioned this on the very first page.., but has any consideration been given to a flybarless offering? Trying to see if the chasis can accomodate an extra gyro...

The prices of flybarless electronics is coming down rapidly and the next heli I buy will have a head designed and built without all those extraneous parts...:smokin:

In general, I think this heli will shake things up a bit regardless. Now, offer a engineered flybarless solution you'll enjoy a year of marketshare while the mega producers play politics and have thousands of meetings to produce a heli with less parts...:rolling

Shorter center hub, too. Nice!!! This is why we love nimble companies!!!

If the ergo's are conducive and I don't have to tuck my SK-360 into a tight space on the G5, I figure it would take 10 minutes or less to swap the SK from one bird to another. This is taking into consideration that each specific program has been created and tested... Love it...

Plenty of room On G5 for electronics I currently have a Vbar on mine with a place for each componet

Any chance of some of us special folks being able to buy kits when the team pilots get theres (Iam deseperate for a 2nd heli at this point)?

Street date is May 31st as of now I believe. That's for everybody.

Going from making frame upgrade kits to a full blown one-stop-shop R/C company making not just helis but a full line of batteries, escs (soon), motors (also soon), and who knows what else sure can't be easy. I'm impressed they've come this far this fast although I bet the ground work was laid long ago.

Mabey Charley is trying the South Park "you can't eat here" marketing tactic but subsitituting "you can't have the heli yet" instead. Then they go and say "oh look, we got motors and flybarless coming soon too". Just makes us want it more.

I kid, I kid. Outrage R/C rocks!
