We know you guys have been in the hot and heavy trying to get your G5 launched, and we're all appreciating your efforts. I hate to bog anyone down by dropping this post here, but I've not gotten one reply to the several emails I've sent to different places regarding a couple of pre-sales questions I have. After hours of wading through all the posts in the different forums you guys post in, I now have most of my questions answered - all except for this one... (I hesitate stating the obvious), but there appears to be 3 distinct G5 canopy types, and 3 distinct frame types, these can be seen at HeliDirect: www.helidirect.com/images/Outrage3x.jpg (http://www.helidirect.com/images/Outrage3x.jpg)

Basically, these are ...
Canopy Type 1) Black/Green w/G5 Logo
Canopy Type 2) Red/Yellow w/Yellow Font
Canopy Type 3) Red/Yellow w/Black Font

Frame Type 1) G10
Frame Type 2) Silver FG
Frame Type 3) CF

My Question: ... Does a particular Canopy distinguish a particular Frame Type, or visa versa..? I'm not particular between the Frame Types, always flown CF, liking the non-conductivity property so may opt for a G10 frame. I am however, set on the Canopy Color Scheme and prefer Type 1. So... my concern boils down to this, at the time of my order, how will I need to specify the Black/Green Canopy w/G5 Logo to insure this is indeed the Canopy Color Scheme which will be received..?

Regards,

HS

Thx, WayneD..! Saw the post, the canopy comment slipped by me.

Well the weekend before launch will be upon us very soon. I'm imagining in a warehouse somewhere is a big pile of G5 kits.

The kits are being examined by top men.....top....men.

At this point in the dream sequence that music from Indiana Jones where it pans over the warehouse where the Ark is being held is playing. A loud whip crack is heard and the music changes to the Indy theme music as we see our hero (that's me of course) swing into frame. Our hero drop kicks a couple of goons and carefully grabs one of the priceless G5 kits and a few other related goodies, hops in a van that happens to be sitting nearby, and drives off into the sunset as gunfire and shouting is heard behind him.

The day was saved.

Seriously though, are we going to be ready to ship on Monday? I guess I could go ahead and pay for my order. Greg?

You may want to give Greg and Charley a chance to reply, they are both at the MHA event this week, arrived yesterday so I'm not sure how much internet connectivity they will have during the day.

I haven't heard anything differnt, but I know Charley was running around like a loney bird this week getting things ready for MHA and the release.

I have several of my minions going to MHA, ill have to get them to harass the G5 crew :)

Wow an event the weekend right before launch day? Charley is going to need a vacation pretty soon I think. ;)

If they get a chance to post something about the launch status, that's cool, if not, I can wait. I know they're pretty busy trying to get everything right.

Yea, we all know about the launch status so anyway...

I was browsing around and found a post in the TRex 700 section about servo current draw and found this tid-bit in a comment from Y@nkee:

"My point is:
If you use higher voltage your current will be less to get the same power."

Hmm.... I wonder where I've heard that before? :YeaBaby:

"My point is:
If you use higher voltage your current will be less to get the same power."While true in a simplistic sense it is not necessarily true that servos run at 6V draw less than servos run at 5V under the same conditions. Firstly the static losses are higher, when the servo is doing nothing the motor will draw more current at the higher voltage. Secondly, at the higher voltage the motor turns faster, generates more torque and more speed so both consumes and outputs more power. After all, the reason people run their servos at 6V is to get faster response time and more torque. Power = Torque x Rotational_speed so at 6V your servos will draw more peak power and higher peak currents than they will at 5V.

True, while the statement was taken out of context and the original material may leave some room for arguement, I posted it here because I thought it was amusing and relevant to why we're drooling over the G5. More power, less current and less hs needed. That's why 6s can pull hard 3D on a 1600kv motor for ~ 8 minutes at around 2400 hs. ;)

Ahh, I see, sorry, missed the subtle linkage :o

For you guys waiting for the Hitec HS-5065MG's, you might wanna consider going with some other digital servos... I talked to ReadyHeli last week, and they said release of this servo will might be as late as September! And yes, they've talked to Hitec.

Did I hear Hyperion? :YeaBaby:

How would the Futaba 3156 be on this heli? Thanks. Matt

byHISgrace, we tried the Futaba 3156 on the cyclics during testing...and were not very impressed with the servo...at least the 4 of them that we had for testing did not center very well at all...infact I am now running them in a foamy plank...as I don't care about centering in that thing!

I suppose we might have been overly critical of the servo as it was a digital and expected more from it than say the trusty ole Hitec HS-65 MG...but they we much worse at centering than the 65's...again...I have had a lot of people look at me like I was nuts when I tell them this...but...this is what we saw with the 4 servos we had...I wouldn't put on the tail...or on the G5 at all...

pretty much sums up how I feel about that servo as well, I wouldn't put it on a helicopter of any description.

I was going to use those futaba s3156s on my Outrage but later on I realized that they came with flimsy servo arms I backed up. The old school hitec 65MGs rule!

Just a quick note: I got those Hitec 65MGs on my old 450 and I crashed it around 50 times, everything was replaced except the servos... :noteworthy

Greg, it was great meeting you at VARCHA, Although the packs were new to me they were not new to many of the others, Lots of positive thoughts on those packs...I'm buying if Hobby Hangars selling... Thanks for the Demo's and the test fly on the G5 definatly a small heli that flys big and well.
