View Full Version : Why do some people use the header tank on the 600n?
I ve noticed in some of the pics posted that some people use the small header tank on the trex 600n and some do not. I was wondering what the advantages and disadvantages of doing this are bacause i thought it wasnt necessary on this heli. And also if their is a definite advantage of running one which header tank do you use, as icould not see one listed as an Align product?
Thanks as always
Simon

We try not to say that here without giving at least one example. Thanks. ;)

ive used them on all my helis and its a tad bit more fuel for flying. it looks cool to.....

I personally find it difficult to see the fuel left in the tank during a flight
I use Magum fuel and even though its redish in clour the align tank hides the level very well
Also it looks cool and it's more money that my heli needs spending on it

I added a QuickUK header, very easy.
Of all the discussion on this, I have heard several advantages and not one major disadvantage.
Advantages:
Less likely to suck in air and kill the engine
No disolved fuel magnet sponge to clog your filter and kill the engine
More flight time - run the main tank dry no problem
Easy to see reserve fuel level
Looks nice
Disadvantages
Costs £10-£15
Spend a whole 10 minutes of your life fitting it

Thats a very good idea Dan. I always thought it seemed a bit rude.

Yes, "do a search" is oft repeated elsewhere...
Ditto to the answers above. I'm going to order one for mine tomorrow.

a lot of people have said that a header is not needed , but only a week or so ago I witnessed at my flying grounds a guy with a 600 who ditched his heli because he was sucking air..
I have been running with a header from the off, It also gives me a good indication on how much fuel I have left , Also I get a few extra min of flight time...

Theres mine, I made a small plate lower the tank and also give the screw that goes into the frame more strength.
I just found the the post laying around. I'm thinking its a computer part or something and it just happened to be the perfect length, just had to drill out the hole for the screw to fit through it.

What I want to know is why some heli's have header tanks and some don't? If I remember right my old Raptor 50 had one.

Where did you get that tank bracket if you don't mind me asking? It looks good.

I got it off of heliproz, I think its the maverick one.

What is that red ring around your cooling fins?
And what's the purpose of the fuel line clamped to the rudder pushrod? Is that for vibration dampening?

it used to be a loop temp sensor. I changed it a little since I'm running a carbsmart and a YS now...

Yes, the fuel tubing was to prevent resonance vibration at idle. I changed to a carbon rod in the meanwhile. Its out of the resonance frequency now.

If you get a fuel magnet or OS Bubbleless Clunk there is no need to run a header anymore as they will suck ever last drop of fuel from your tank.
I know guys who fly hard 3D without headers, and they've never had any problems.

I know a guy who was flying hard 3d no header tank was using fuel mag , and still had a flame out... work that one out...
fuel mag are good but they rot over time you tend to see bits of it in your filter..
I dont think you can beat a header tank no matter what..
THE END....

True, thats why I got an OS Bubbleless Clunk thats all metal. Times have changed. Headers are now old skool and a thing of the past for old timers!!! :YeaBaby:

Header tanks are old school (in your opinion). Nobody is forcing you to use one.
Personally I wouldn't be without one as I can see very easily how much fuel I have left and also protect myself from any pick up that may malfunction. There is nothing wrong with redundancy when it comes to keeping the Heli in the air.

He's just jealous because we can afford header tanks :smokin:
Back to serious... I don't understand why we need to fight here... the heli flies with or without a header tank. Each one to his own.
My opinion about the use of header tanks:
Advantages:
1. Easier to see fuel level
2. added flight time by 1 minute or so
3. in case of main tank clunk failure, you will see your header tank go low despite maintank being full - Landing possible instead of flameout
4. bubble trap during hard 3D maneuvers
5. looks cool
Disadvantages
1. weight
2. more tubing and connections = more failure points
3. mounting may proove difficult on some helis
4. some hate the looks of it
My two cents

Good points Tony.
BTW, I was only joking around. I was actually looking at a tank header a while back, but the only one like liked was with a UK Bracket, and cost like $50 bucks to get it shipped to the US. Then I found out about the OS Bubbleless Clunk, and decided to give it a try. So far so good.
