Did you try turning some of the settings down? Also make sure you have the newest drivers for your video card.

Thanks for the reply, I had G2 and that ran nice . What settings should I start with?

Turn the sim on, go to the left System tab. Then go to system settings, then to display. Make sure you run the sim in fullscreen, turn Vertical sync and antialiasing off. Then Turn shadow quality, scenery and smoke quality to low. Try the sim and see if it runs smooth after that. If it does change one parameter at a time until the sim gets laggy again and that will help determine what setting is causing the problem.

Sounds like your hardware is a little on the underpowered side fpr Phoenix. G2 was way easier on your PC compared to the newer sims on the market. I would at least get some more memory and make sure you have the latest drivers for your vid card.

I have the same problem when I run in windowed mode.
There is a shortcut to switch into and out of full screen mode: Alt+Enter.
Running in full screen (non-windowed) is MUCH easier on the CPU. It is strongly recommeded, by me, to use full screen when flying with other pilots online.

I have this problem occasionally.
I have an high end system, and for some reason the DirectX drivers go flakey after a few days without a reboot.. If I reboot, it works fine.

I have this same problem.... When ever I open phoenix, it will seem like it is dropping frames. I troubleshooted this for a while, and figured out that if I go into the display preferences, and toggle anti-aliasing it will work fine. Funny thing is it will work fine with or without anti-aliasing, and starting with or without it, it will still have the problem.
I tried contacting the software support for this, and they said, that not all graphics cards can handle anti-aliasing, and when I replied, saying it has this problem with or with out anti aliasing, I got no reponse.

I have the same problem with a brand new HP computer and a very good 3D card... G3 was doing great but Phoenix is not smooth.

the lastest update fixed it for me, but now I cant use antialiasing with the new water effects, or reflections.

Some tips to get good performance:
- Always install the latest released drivers for your video card and the last version of DirectX on your PC
- make sure your taskbar is not filled with all kinds of programs that run in the background.
- pick a screenresolution that works, lower or less colordepth is not always faster with some video cards.
- run it full screen
- alter your videocards performance settings, try performance instead of quality (this includes AA-AF-mipmap- etc.etc.)
- Try disabling the sun effect (huge framerate hit on my card when enabled).edit: fixed in 1.05 !!

Same problem here. I run Phoenix on Vista with a Dell Dimension 9200 dual core, NVidia 7900GS card and 2G memory and for the first time I have problems with the graphics.
Anti Aliasing is causing the heli to freeze above water. If I fly above land or choose a scenery without water everything is ok.
If I turn off anti aliasing everything runs fine but It doesn't look as cool off course.....
Phoenix support was very fast with answering my email but did not come up with a solution. They suggested re-downloading the 1.05a beta but no change......
Also they asked my video card brand. As it is a native NVidia 7900GS there cannot be a problem with that. I run Gears Of War no problem 1920 x 1200 on the 24" Dell screen.

When I first installed 1.05, it loaded once, but wouldn't again, I emailed support, got a prompt answer of needing to install updated drivers, after the 2 hrs. of removing old and installing the new drivers, the thing works perfect.

Thanks for the suggestion and glad it worked for you, but I uninstalled and re- installed two times (I hate to put all upgrades over the old ones, I still have the native cd) taking a lot of time but still the same issue.
Maybe it has something to do with the high res screen but there is definitely an issue with anti-aliasing.
Hope they'll fix it in the final, it still is a great sim without the AA though.....
