With mis matched packs, you just need to ensure that the lower performing packs isn't over discharged.

You could even fly different capacity packs, as long as you base your flying on the LOWER CAPACITY pack. But NOT recommended. :)

So do the short flight, check the mAH back into each pack separately, and set your timer based on the pack that took more % mAH. Also check the voltage on the two packs, and the one that came off at the lower voltage is lower performing pack, so fly based on that pack.

If you are really worried, order two 3S lipo alarms from Efliernz here on the Freak and wire them up so you land with either pack hits cut off voltage.

Yes, you can do that but it is difficult because the discharge rate is not constant. As the battery gets older, the discharge rate is getting bigger. I have a 14.8V TP pack here that was slowly degrading to the point that the discharge time difference between it and the new packs is 2 min. I decommissioned it a few months ago. I could tell that the pack was on its way out by looking the spreadsheet that logged all my battery usage, discharge voltage, and current put back.

The other important thing I noticed was that some packs loses performance as they get older. The voltage is there, but the performance is weak. Flying with this pack in the set would cause low headspeed since the power system is not able to deliver the current draw.

Cheers,

Dan

I dont see how it is difficult... since he is using one alarm for each battery, whenever one battery reaches a critical point the alarm will go off, and he can land.

Yes, that is true, and running two mis matched packs is not optimal. Possible, but not optimal.

In my experience a 500 size heli (Lepton) will be a bit too big for the local park compared to a 450se , and too small to do various aerobatic autos , like a 600E with TT.

Besides packs won`t be cheap either. I flew my Lepton for a while and I liked it, but then when my 600E came in , dust was collecting on the Lepton and I sold it.

However, if someone is hesitating between getting a 450 or a 600, then the 500 will look good. Just my two cents.

Hey cyclic do you think a 500 is too big for a 3/4 acre backyard? I'm flying my 450 in there without much problems, but sometimes I feel like I'm gonna hit a tree.

Yeah, the 500 will be much quicker than the 450 and have a lot more energy in main blades. When you try your 500 keep it close and do slower tricks, you should be ok.

Not decided yet... on the T500.

I will be keeping an eye on it though. For now I'll stick with the 450. My 450 is a hand full for now especially in the small park that I fly it.

I am pretty sure that there will be bugs in the new production. I an so excited waiting for Finless videos pointing out issues and device clever manipulation and customization of the bird.

I am in no hurry, I think I will wait for the Second and Improved Edition of the 500. (enough time to start saving for it)

I won't be getting one. Nothing against it but I bought 4 heli's since last March. My next heli is probably going to be a 90, either the Trex or a Stratus.

You CAN fix them after a crash.

Really, I didn't know that. WTF.

Yeah it's gonna really mess up the industry if a lot of people find out.

(sorry, just my weird sense of humor kicking in)

Same here. I have 3 TRexes and a Hurricane. I only fly only one in a given day, but it is good to know that I have 3 back up helis at home. Sometimes I don't even touch the carcass a few weeks after a crash. I fly every day and hate to think that I don't have anything airworthy that day :)

Sorry for another noob question - probably it has been answered already, but I didn't find it:

the shown 500 models do have CFK (what's that in English, Carbon?!) chassis and some aluminium parts at the rotor head. But a lot parts looks like plastik.

I don't know how it is with e TRex 600 (is there a SE?) but will there be some kind of TRex 500 SE? Any rumor or announcement of such SE version?

If, so, probably I have to wait for it... But yes, I will buy a TRex 500 too!

600 doesnt have an SE version because the all-metal head or tail isnt absoluetly nessessary on the 600 for durability. The 450 there is an SE version, probably because the parts need to be more durable.

Align introduced the 600N with the pro version first, so maybe the pictures we are getting of the 500 will be the most hopped-up version.

I am currently #9 on a waiting list. I just hope that he gets at least 9 in his first shipment so I can get mine right away. Then I will have to decide on the rest of the components. I just hope that they arrive soon so my new T-Rex 500 kit will be under the tree on Christmas morning!

I saw Alan Szabo's t-rex 500 at the field on sunday. I have to say it is pretty sweet. I can't wait until they come out.

I own a few TRex450's and a TRex600. I like the power and the flying characteristics of my 10s flybarless TRex600. The little ones are fun for "garden flying", but I hate them to repair, cuz everthing is so small and fiddly. Despite my glasses I hardly can see the tiny screws sometimes, LOL.
Thats the reason I will most likely get one too and selling all the little ones.

i would like to know "why not" from the pepole voting no, just curious....

Because I already have an HDX500 for months now and, with custom upgrades, it performs better than the Trex 500.

So, you've built and flown a Trex 500. Let's have some pics and video please. Or is it all steam.

Haven't flown a Trex500 but a lot can be seen in the vids.

Not steam...I'm not selling anything. Just an amateur with only myself to please. :)

Sorry for bragging a bit. OK, so I'm a proud amateur.

Just imagine what a Trex 500 with "custom upgrades" will do.;)

We'll just have to wait an see how it compares. The stock HDX500 is known to be stable, but sluggish. We'll soon see if the Trex 500 stacks up well against the competition.

Glad you enjoy your HDX - it's all good.

Thanks. Don't get me wrong though. I'm not talking about custom off the shelf upgrades. HDX has come out with more than one "upgrade" but they just keep floundering...IMHO. Still not anywhere near what I see in the Trex vids.

The upgrades I'm talking about are my own. GOT CNC!

I guess it isn't actually an HDX anymore...I've remade just about every part in the head...it's probably more of a Trex500 come to think of it. :D

Some examples.
