Thanks Gilles! I've been waiting for this-hoping the canopy will fit the 550. Looks like (aside from the canopy) the only difference is a longer boom and belt. Did you notice the side shot with what looks like a very thick main gear?

Thicker maingear,longer boom.different fins,fancy lid,otherwise it looks like your 550 to me.

Hmm, different part numbers for the frames, but they look identical with the exception that the 620 is missing the hole for the lower canopy mount.
That new shell is what I'm really waiting for-I'd guess it's not that popular with the masses but I like it.

I would be interested to find out if a FP 6s 3700 will fit with the new lid.The specs say 4 to 10s.I havent cut my painted swift canopy yet so this new one might fit.You are running 5s arent you?If so, what is it about the new lid that impresses you? The reason I ask, is I could give you a decent deal on my painted lid if you are interested.

Thanks Todd, you da man! Trouble is, I have a heck of a time removing the stock canopy because of the way it fits at the back of the frame. The fiberglass lid that came with the kit cracked and tore right at the grommet hole because even though I trimmed a LOT of material away you still have to stretch the snot out of it to get it on and off. It's a bit easier with the plastic canopy as it's more flexible, but still nowhere near as simple as a flat-sided lid like the Rex shells. I tried a Hurricane canopy and it worked ok, but the mounting holes had to be drilled so near the edge that it didn't last more than a few crashes.:o
The 620 canopy doesn't curve over the back of the frame much, (at least as far as I can tell from the tiny pic @ Century) and for whatever reason I really like the shape.

Looks to be a good deal of differences to my 550E...which certainly will make it better to handle the power requirements & rigors of swinging 600 to 620mm mainblades. Looks like they have really done their homework.

1- The mainframes are deeper to accomodate the doubly thick maingear that is probably needed to harness the power available from a motor being driven by 37 volts (10 cells) as that is some very serious power.

2- Looks like the only thing in the main rotor head that is common with my 550E is the CNC machined rotor hub (I really love this hub as it also clamps the mainshaft at its' base just like any top 90 size nitro does). This 620 rotor head has the CNC blade grips which the 550E does not have.

3- It also has tuneable CNC bell/hiller mixer arms that the 550E does not have

4- It also has a CNC seesaw assembly and it looks like a 4mm flybar that the 550E does not have.

5- It also has a CNC Washout hub with CNC machined and tuneable washout arms that do not come with the 550E.

6- Obviously it has a longer boom and drive belt, but it also has the CNC tail rotor gearbox and control bellcrank that is not included with the 550E

7- It looks to have a completely different tail rotor - seems to be a triple bearing version like on their Predator 90 nitro.

8- Of course I love the look of the new Canopy...though I think the air flow intake hole in the windshield of the Swift 16 and 550E canopies may initially have taken away from their looks, it did keep the motor and electronics cooler under the same loads then other electrics of that size and the look did grow on me after awhile,,,,so I do hope all will stay adequately cool without the hole.

As all of these changes cover every part of a heli that is responsible for its flight envelope, power handling and/or dependability...it looks to be a real winner!!

wow that gear setup is odd.. Looks nice though but the gears why.. looks like there are 3 stacked on top of each other

Thanks

It does look like there's 3 in one of the pics, but that is actually just a very thick gear as Rav mentioned.
Btw Rav, good eye. I guess I don't notice as many differences since my 550 is completely blinged out anyway-with the exception of the triple bearing tail.

If it's got the same landing gear legs as the Swift 16 then you better try something else. I broke so many legs on my S16 that I finally settled on Raptor 50 Gear. A little shorter but so much stouter. Haven't broken one yet ! Tons of hard autos too. That gear virually unbreakable.

The first Swift 16 landing gear where a bit on the flimsy side, but I have had their current version (much more heavy duty) on mine now for about a year and they have held up very well....even on some bounced auto-rotation landings.

Rav50, What is their current version. Is it just the shorter slightly beefier version from the early models? If that is true I don't know how you haven't broken 1. I was constantly breaking them because the plastic is crap. They broke where the skid goes through them VERY often. Sometimes on a very easy landing. That is a huge stress point for that plastic they used. If they used a different kind, say like the Raptor 50 uses, then I wouldn't have changed. I could probably drop my heli from 5 feet and only bend that stuff, wreck something else though.
I had been using the shorter beefier version, either v2 or maybe even v3. N.G.

Rav50, Got Metal Vert.Skid? Notice tailbooms. Skids broke too easy when I first got the Swift 01/07. Metal bends. Haven't hit a tailbalde with a bent one either. Haven't bent one in forever. See nice brand new unflown model 2 skid? Easy to make.
6S4000 and 5S5000 packs fits under the front tray. Slot cut into canopy. 550 Rotortechs. Berg7 and deans 2 piece ant.

I believe mine are the V3. They seem as long as the ones before but are beefed up in all areas.
