Hi to all

Finally I decided and buy a 500 size heli. I choose HDX/3DX500 heli and ordered from Hongkong. When it arrives I go over the head and realized that it was 3DX-500 with hirobo-lepton style head. The heli comes with stock 890 kv motor and 55 A ESC, but no assembly instructions available. I go over the runryder forum and, Helifreak. I found some link lengths, but I want to be sure before first flight. Can some experienced 3DX-500 pilots who have the same hirobo head give me the link lengths with type of the ball links? You know kit has three different ball links. In addition I read lots of topics saying that the head comes with wrong blade direction out of the boxes. Can anybody post the main and tail rotor pictures for me to see correct directions? Are main and tail rotor should be turn with trailing or leading edge grips? Sorry for lots of questions, but I want to be sure before first flight. Thanks to all in advance.

Here is a setup picture taken from www.takeoffandland.com.au (http://www.takeoffandland.com.au)
all the measurements are centre to centre. Dont worry that the picture is of the HDX head the link lengths are pretty much the same.

The servo links to swash length are spot on. once you have them set, it is just a matter of getting everything level at mid collective stick, 0' pitch.

I would say go watch the finless videos for the lepton. especially the head as this is exactly the same as the 3DX head. You need to do the linkage alignment trick that he mentions(two whole videos on it).

Are those link dimensions taken centre of ball to centre of ball. The picture is a bit confusing

I think you will find that they are centre to centre.
I just checked my setup and they are virtually the same as the picture.

The lengths may change from the photo but it is a real good starting point.

Thanks Mick
Had a sad one with my new HDX500, first hover and was checking the tracking (perfect out of the box ) when the head flew off , no personal damage but , blades, paddles , mainshaft, flybar , main rotor hub and slide block, collective servo s and horns , all damaged. Still trying to workout what failed

I am interested to know the cause of Danil's flown head.

Did the main shaft stay in the heli or did it leave with the head?

What do you mean with side block?

Mick

It is the cnc part that slides up into the two prongs of the rotor head. The parts list in the Heldirect manual call it a slide block- I am a noobie so still learning the terms.
The main shaft stayed on the heli . The bottom bolt on the rotor head through the main shaft , sheared off .There is a clear mark on the head behind where the bolt head seat, which indicates a pulling force on the bolt
I tried to upload pics but unsuccesful- what is the trick?

You have to be in Advanced reply mode.
Then down near the bottom of the page is "manage attachments"
or you can cut and paste directly into the edit window.

Hi to all

Thanks for all reply. I am very sorry for the failure Lotus. Very interesting failure. I adjust the head, but I did not completely finished the assembly. When I started hovering, and fine tuned my links, I posted my link lengths for feedback. I hope all off the pilots have a nice flight without any crash and damage.

How did you manage to damage the servos on the left hand side of the heli??

Now that is a something to be seen.

I decked mine yesterday during an Autorotation attempt. Busted my MAH blades and the H550 undercarriage. Went straight in on the nose but caused a lot less damage than I expected.

Nice canopy

quick get back on the horse!!

It looks like the one paddle hit the servos on the horns. That paddle is nowhere to be found.
The canopy came like that with the kit from Helidirect , via our local importer xheli.co.za ( I am in Cape Town)
I will be back on the horse as soon as the replacements arrive from Helidirect - should be here next week. In the meantime the HDX450 is the pony
