Hey ya'll,

I did my first loop and forward flip yesterday! I'm so excited.

Here's my setup:
Stock motor
(2) 3s2p Maxamps 3100 (each battery is (6) 1550maH Lipos stacked)
Hyperion OPTO 80A TITANWARNLED ESC with Governor set to "range 2" and the HS set at 1700 rpm with the optical tach. In "range 2" my throttle curve is 55%. In "range 1" i was only getting 1650 rpm at 100%. It's a very smooth spool-up.
Hyperion TICOOL BEC
GY240 holding SOLID.

Seems to be getting great runtimes,

Congrats!! Awesome hobby isn't it?
Still have yet to maiden mine, but hopefully it will be soon. I'll probably be just as excited just to get mine off the ground.

Got any pics of the packs in the frame... 6x1550s per pack sounds like it will be a big stack - seems its 3S2P or somesuch.
Sounds very good.

Congrats man, awesome feeling when it works out the first time,
I know exactly how you feel, I had my first loop and flip last Saturday,
and yesterday I rolled it over 2 times.

The adrenaline pumping, Awesome !!!

Here are a few pics of the batteries in and out of the heli. I epoxied some light-ply to the mount area to ease attaching the batts. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

lvseicsh,
I will not get my CG right if my battery mounted the same way as you.
I'm using 3300mAh from Dualsky.
The top battery pack has to move almost touching the motor and the bottom battery has to move all the way in.

Have you confirm you have a good CG?

Mine are weighing in at 239 grams each with 5" 12AWG leads and Deans Ultra connector.

The Dualskys are 280g per the specs (could be more) as mine were 224g in the specs.

I have the long boom and CF vert. tail fin w/ no horizontal stab. Mine balances PERFECTLY with the MaxAmps 3100HV packs.

When I use my TP 2100 pro-lites I have to hang them as far forward as possible and I'm still tail heavy.

I have also the long boom and CF frame.
So is the battery weight that causing the difference.

how high do you need to be to do loop, roll or flip? also, does this depend on how fast your servos are? i've been dieing to try one, but don't like the idea of my baby getting plowed into the earth.

Not really servo speed. Its more cyclic pitch.

Go up pretty high and try it so you get a feel for how much room you need. Just go for it. You'll love it! You may need a change of underware afterward though! LOL.

My first few times I had to land afterward from shaking so bad.

I say 100 ft on the Hurricane is sufficient. It is not the loop that is scary. It is the adrenalin, and the fear seeing the helicopter in an awkward position that could cause it to hit the ground any moment that sends your heart into pounding, your leg into trembling so badly :) I would recommend you to try it on the sim first to get your collective stick sequence worked out first before trying it on the real thing.

Once you get used to the loops and flips, everything else is easy (well, at least your heart doesn't beat so fast anymore ...)

GL and Enjoy,

personally I would recomend a back flip first, it is 10x easyer and much less likely to crash.
just take it up at least 50 feet, 100 would be better, and also at least 100 feet away from you, get it in a stable hover do a slow climb with collective, and then drop the pitch to 0 and at the same time pull straight back on the stick, if you remember to pump a little neg collective when it is upside down great, if not it will flip over fast enough to add pos pitch soon enough. now do this over and over again, till you can do them stationary. you will get the sequence down on stick movements, how much neg does it take to hold it up without climbing etc, or to get it to climb while inverted etc...
I say get the heli at least 100 foot away from you because if you forget to go to 0 pitch when you pull back, instead of a flip it will loop over. but a stock hurricane will flip in probalby a 30foot or less with just pulling back on the stick, with no pitch changes. a loop might take 100ft and more things can go wrong, only because of the panic factor of the heli moving, generally you get into trouble on the down hill side where the orientation of the heli changes. a back flip 100 ft away from you stays away from you, once you get the collective down you can do a back flip 10 ft off the ground easily. MY guess is you will do the first one at 100 ft and the next 20 flips at 50 ft or less. then the loop will come easy because it uses the same collective inputs but it is just timed slower snce the heli is now moving.

A simple question: Technically, if I am comfortable to do flips on the sim, will it be easy to do with the real thing? Forget the pucker factor here, just talking about learning the stick moves...

Also, do I have to learn inverted hovering before doing flips and rolls? I understand that I have to give some negative once upside down, but do I have to be able to actually fly it inverted?

I was actually suprised at how easy it was in real life. THe only thing is that I was up pretty high and I think I'll bring it down a little next time so it will be more like I do it on the sim.
