These items are easier to do before frame halves are joined:
Install elevator and rudder servo
Center elevator servo in Vstabi , you can’t see it once installed
JR 8717s require only the elevator servo needs to be shimmed
Install 3 axis sensor
Install motor mount, 1 side
Verify motor, shaft, pinion, main gear, and counter bearing mounting
Check shimming that may be necessary for main gear or pinion
Determine motor and controller wiring layout
Final build tips:
Use a swash plate leveler in Vstabi test mode. 90 servo arms and adjust links.
Vstabi setup:
Nico’s or Dani’s cyclic setup , available at Vstabi.de, are a good place to start, very responsive for 3D flying.
If you have static electricity glitches, lube belt with silicone spray, or install a static bleed wire between idler pulley bolt and boom. I use 8mm OD bearings without the plastic shell and run the bleed wire to the first boom clamp. The wire is held to the boom with the clamp, anodizing is filed off and a drop of oil is applied to the wire to prevent corrosion.

Good idea but to clarify...
In regards to the 8717 servos, best geometry I could acheive was having the front servos shimmed with the supplied shims, one top one bottom on both front servos, then the elevator was "not" shimmed. My geometry doing it this way and using Mikado servo horns is deadly. Was this a error in your memo or....?
Also in regards to centering horns best you can prior to VStabi software boot up best method I found for any heli was to do all the servos on a grid paper prior to install to ensure your 90 degrees is met.
Anyhow like I said good thougths here, just adding a few notes. Cheers. :D

I am also using the Mikado servo arms, but I left out the extra nut shim called out in the instuctions on the elevator servo. I cut a groove in the shim to clear the servo rib. That must be the difference. Thanks for pointing this out. I will look at the aileron servos again.
Smoked my CC 85HV tonight, perhaps I should try a 110HV or something else.
BTW, the 1912H/1Y runs well on the 13T as well as the 14T.

I have no nuts behind any of the balls "that sounded funny", but seriously no nuts and only spacers on front. I can take a photo but I went over this carefully and best geometry was with no nuts, and spacers on front and none on the elevator. As well if you have one that has a nut behind ball the other 2 must have it as well, otherwise the lever effect will come into play as you move the swash and add cyclic, this will do funny things in flight, all three cyclic points must be same distance length from servo horn center and as well distance out from servo horn itself. Only trying to help here is all....

That sucks man, if you can score a Kontronik Jazz get one.

I failed geometry. But, I got an "A" in wood shop, so out with the drill bits for this project.

Cool Matt, funny thing I was thinking about drilling a hole there as well to clean up wires from the front as well, good thinking. Your elevator servo is mounted sideways here in pic?

Nope elevator servo is mounted like manual specs out. (see first pic)
Running the wires like this makes for a clean looking heli. I really like this bird, it's built solid!

ME BAD, was looking at it "sideways" lol. Looks good that way, nice and clean!

My servos are mounted with one nut behind each ball and 1 nut behind the "Sticks."
Wires can be run along the mid frame rib behind the right aileron servo. I have my power wires and throttle wire run along this rib disapearing behind the servo..

John so did you leave out the spacers on the aileron servos, or did you install some?

Shawn,
The aileron servos are mounted without spacers, but a nut is under the ball as described in the instructions.
I am running 2S with the 8717s, JR921, and Vstabi. The 8900G has an Emcotec 5.2v regulator inline. The 2S battery fits in the little triangle area in front of the motor with 2 HD leads to the reciever.

I use Futaba 9252 servos with aileron spacers and "nut my balls" per the manueal:lol:

Hmmm okies, well maybe I better look at mine again, I am thinking maybe both ways are as close then...... your back elevator servo, no spacer, but what about a nut x (2) behind that ball then?, the manual states two, but I have none and the geometry is bang on, which is why honestly I considered not using them on the front ones.
Also very curious as you speak about the Emcotech regulator, where did you buy yours? And what battery did you find that could fit in that little shelf? I could not locate one with that sizing to fit well in there.
BTW the 8717 are same exact size as Futaba 9451, and 9252s.

I ordered the regulators from Emcotec in Germany. The battery I am using is a TP 1320.
I think we arrived at the same geometry through different means

I agree after looking closer at mine yes.

For a regulator pack i'm using a TP 2S 1900 which is squarish and fits perfectly under the ESC shelf. My nuts are as per the manual too!

Is one of you using the servo rubbers and the other not ?

I use rubbers....:) I have the screws so tight they are spreading outward. Maybe I should just remove them completely.
