I was talking to our HDX500 importer about a new tail gear coming out for the 500. It is 13 teeth instead of 14, which is the same as the lepton. The new gear has fixed the HDX tail problems, there is a video of Phil Lennert flying one at the Bendigo fun fly in Oz. I am lead to believe these gears maybe interchangeable with the lepton. This hopefully will give more tail authority to the lepton. The gears are due in about 2 weeks, I have one ordered, so will post when i know more,

cheers Kev

I finally have the 13 tooth metal gear, have just recieved a new tail sharft and locating pin. There is a minor dremel job to be done on the locating pin as it is slightly longer than the HDX one and slightly thicker. I will need to grind some flats either side of the pin where it exits the sharft to get it narrow enough to locate in the gear. Will post again once this is completed. Also having good success so far just using 7703D and 3400G with 75-80% DR,

Cheers Kev

I just modded one of these new pulleys and once you take it apart you have to machine off, .0235" each side and drop the pin slot deeper to compensate. Once you press the flanges back on you will have to machine the pin side flange to clear the pin side slightly so that side sits right on the bearing inner race. I also noticed initially that while it looks like the pulley has the right tooth height and pitch spacing you will have to run the belt very tight to prevent slipping. The original pulley and spacer makes up to .424" in length and it should be .118 from the end of the shaft. Even after making the HDX part to match the Lepton tail box I still had to add .010 shims to eliminate free play. I still haven't figured that one out yet.

I will test fly it when the WX gets warmer and let y'all know how it works.

Thanks to Ken for sending me a few to play with.
