What motors would work on 12s in the Ionx? I've seen the Acro but I'm looking at the possibility on a somewhat cheaper option.

I run a NEU 1521 1.5Y but it is just as expensive as the actro motor.
No motor for a 90 size electric is going to be cheap :DOH
What kind of performance are you going to be looking for?

At least the same as a 90 running 30%. I saw a Hacker in the manual, those are kind of cheap here I think.
Laurens,
There were supposed to be some bigger Z-power R70's coming out but these have not seemed to materialise yet. Too bad, because the prices on Z-power motors are pretty good.
Saving yourself $100-150 on a cheaper, or unproven motor is not a good idea anyway imop, esp when you've got +$2,000 in the air. I'd use the new Actro 32-3 Max heli motor w/6mm or 8mm shaft if I were you. The new Max version is supposed to be a bit more efficient (~5%).

If you want a good solid running motor with lots of power and it doesn't overheat, then get the Actro. Yes its a $300 motor, but if you want the performance that you will be happy with, then pay the extra and get something that you know will work. Like someone else said, the difference of <$100 on a $2000 machine doesn't seem worth worrying about.
Just my $0.02...
