I ordered a CF kit which come standard with the 1100kv Gaui, but I still want to use my 2100mah 450 packs (the big attraction of this heli). Will a 13T pinion do the trick. I will be happy with 5min flight times.
Thanks.

I have an RCP H/18 1100KV motor on my Hurricane XES. The 13T pinion along with stock gear setup runs at a maximum of 2000 rpm headspeed. A pair of 2100 mah battery would last 4 min 15 seconds flying standard 3D (loops, rolls, stall turns, 540, immelman, and inverted flying)
A friend of mine has a 14T setup on his Hurricane, he killed a couples of packs already doing loops because the motor sucks so much current out of the little packs.
I also have a set of FP-3200 30C packs. I think this is the perfect battery for the Hurricane. I can fly for 6 min 30 secs doing the same 3D maneuvers as described above. The battery packs are just warm when I land.
The only draw back is the FP packs cost twice as much as the 2100mah packs.

Thanks . So I will get the 13T pinion. Should be fine for now I only do sport flying and a few loops and rolls. I will upgrade my packs later.

so if that is the case, then this statement is false?
Two 11.1 2200 flight powers isn't going to give you much runtime, expect around 2 minutes if you hold to the 80 percent rule
i'm not going to say names, but the gentlemen who said that ^ was quoting me on some a123's that i might be buying.

? Sorry I am confused. My plan was to fly 3 min then see how much I put back, the 4 min etc - so I could get an idea as to how much I draw with my flying style.

I have the 1100 motor and with 2200 packs I am lucky to get 4 min with 13t pinion. I feel like the 3200s would rock.

What sort of flying, cruising or hard 3D?

cruising. 3d scares me. i can so some things on the sim, and when i get out for real i tell myself that i'm going to try something, but i chicken out. so just hovering (which for some reason doesn't bore me yet) and figure 8's. dumb question, but what is a circuit? wide circles?

If you search around you will find many happy users reporting around 5minutes on 6s ~2200 20C lipo packs so whoever told you 2 minutes was not well informed. 7s A123 2300 is reported as giving 4 to 8 minutes depending on headspeed and flying style.
My understanding is that the term "circiut" does indeed refer to wide continuous circles. I find them much harder than figure eights and my helis have paid a heavy price for my attempts ;) I am gradually getting there though.

kgfly, Is that with the 1100 guai motor?

Zoobie - good question and no, that was with the original 850kv motor. While the 1100 is thirstier, it's more about your setup (primarily gearing and throttle curve = headspeed) and flying style. If you setup with 2600rpm and fly hard 3D then maybe 2min is right. If you setup with 1800rpm for hovering and mild FF then I would expect 5min is achievable.
ke6d said it clearly

Kgfly, I am not sure if there is a pinion small enough to go below 2k headspeed with the 1100kv motor. I think the 13T gives you 2k?

I am not sure either. Maybe with the Revco gears and pinions ?
Is hard to believe a pair of 2200 packs can only last 2 mins. I think only a 35C pack can survive in this condition.
I have Z30A 1100kv with 16T + 61T and it lasted for 5min mild 3D flying (Fig 8s, loops, inverted flying).
The only disadvantage of this setting is cyclic response is bit slow and less climbout power.
This is very suitable for gentle/mild 3D or fig 8s flying and I believe you will get 6 mins if just fig 8s flying.

BL, I would think that with a 16T pinion you would drastically shortened times? Is that with 2200mah?
Zoobie,
Yes, is 2200mAh 25C Dualsky
16T Pinion and 61T Spur gear.
Not 16T and 42T.

Ok, sorry I missed that, what Head speed do you get BL?

On my setup, with a throttle curve of 95, 92, 90, 92, 95 the headspeed is around 1750. It still has a lot power, I was able to pull very big loop with without bogging the motor (the current draw is around 60 Amp) With a 100% throttle curve across the max headspeed is a tag below 2000 rpm.
Attached is the datalogger chart for the flight. The headspeed reading is twice the actual one because I needed to hook up 2 sensor wires to the motor to get rpm reading but forgot to adjust it in the software.

Ke6D, what is your setup? Pinion motor etc.

i am running the RCP h/18 1100 kv motor and the revco gears on a 21t pinion which is pretty close to the stock gearing with a 13t. I am running the Evo 2500 packs and i get 4.5 minutes tops of mild 3d, flips, rolls, loops, tic tocs and funnels and stall turns. I also run 7s A123 packs I get the same flight time on the A123, but the A123 don't perform nearly as well, they lack the punch but they do fly nice. the Evo's really rock. I have not been able to determine what I like better, the overall performace of the Evo's. or the cost/safety/ charge time advantage of the A123's. it is like the difference between a 25c lipo and a 15-18c lipo, you can notice the head speed difference but it still flies very nicely, smooth not wild!
I don't think the Gaui 1500w motor would do well on the 2200mah packs though.
Ok, sorry I missed that, what Head speed do you get BL?
Head speed about 2000rpm at 100% throttle.
With this gear ratio, I like to use the max HS thus 100% throttle. And it doesn't has any bog during climbout.
Ke6D, what is your setup? Pinion motor etc.
RCP H/18 1100KV motor/ Align 75A ESC/stock gearing/13T pinion/500 mm RCP blades.
