View Full Version : Sceadu "Evo" main gear question...

My "Evo" is actually a mix of pre Evo frame and Evo (FZIV?) head. The main and second gear is a one piece unit and apparently not the DTDS system that came out later.

Today during a double roll I heard a pop and brought it back in to hover where it had an obvious "that's not good" sound to it. Upon landing I discovered the main gear had broken, losing a couple teeth (and the webbing that supports them) completely and munching six or seven more.

I replaced it with the SD-G DTDS main and second gear with the blue anodized aluminum carrier and duracon gears. It wasn't cheap...

Nothing that I can think of in the past should have weakend the gear other than one short hot start (idle up was on) that lasted all of a couple seconds while I held the head and fumbled with the TX. That was a couple months ago and it's done many flights since then.

Has anyone else seen this kind of gear failure and have a clue to what might have caused it?

I have seen the Sceadu Evo 30 loose teeth in flight.
I have never seen the Evo 50 do it.
Evo 30 has one peice gear.
Evo 50 has a split gear DTDS (2-peices).
Evo 30 main gear is not designed to run wth a 50.
The gear will wear with a well setup OS37SZ-H.
It will eventually strip a couple of weak teeth.
If you are running a 50 the best main & second gear for the job is the white delrin with the CNC second gear mount.
Also there is a counter gear in white delrin.
Pays to keep the gears clean and dry!

Thanks!

Yes, I went to what you have there (actually the EX hub and gear) after the failure. Nice to know my club owner sold me a 30 main gear without bothering to mention it...
