The first one has this quote from Haldor (Kontronik Support):

The Jazz do the calibration each time you spool it up, and it readjust if you command a different throttle setting on the go. Thats why you do not have to reprogram/calibrate a Jazz if you change something in the system.

That implies you don't need to do the spool-up to 100%, right? That would certainly explain my lack of troubles ;)

http://helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=35367 here is a little more concise explanaton...

If your heli spooled up you probably did not do the jumper install / pull-off correctly. I've programmed several Jazz' and this never happened to me... Anyway it is always a good safety practice to remove the motor from the heli, or take out the main gear, or remove the pinion prior to playing with SC settings... Good luck getting it set up :)

I'm leaving my motor unhooked for the next round of programing.

From what I read, the motor needs to be plugged in for the programming to work but you can take off the blades. Does the Jazz make the beeps through the motor like the Align?

OK I wrote a 1,2,3 to the Jazz, I hope it makes enough sense I did it all off top of my head there, lol.

I see what I did wrong.... After putting it into mode #1 I thought it was time to spool it up then land, shut everything off and then go into mode #4. Kind of funny now but sure wasn't earlier.

You can unplug the motor and look at the esc's led flashes too, you don't need the sound; but yes, it uses the motor as a speaker like most esc's. I never spooled it up as part of the setup, I don't think that's necessary. I just put it in mode 4 and mode 9 (I think it's 9, IE lipo mode for LV cutoff voltage) and then just set a linear throttle curve at 85% to get the rpm I wanted. No other messing around is required AFAIK.

Just came in after programing it per Shawn instructions...... man oh man this thing flies awesome! It has lots more headspeed and seams cooler. This is without the canopy compared to without the canopy.

I put my gov headspeed to 75% from 70% I still think it needs more. Will try 80% then 85% next time out. I think I need to loosen my belt tension a little too.

I am still dialing in my 5003D and I was wondering about belt tension. Anyone have any recommendations for setting belt tension? (Sorry to hijack your thread).

To my understanding you do not have to wait untill the head is spooled up.
The characteristics of the engine are learned within half a second, with the slow spool up feature of the Jazz you might see a couple of hundred RPM's before you shut down(after this half of a second of course).

It's really just a feel thing. I wish I could explain it but I'm not good at that sort of thing. I suggest starting a new thread asking the question and I'm sure you will get your answer.;)
