Can anyone share there experience with a good upgraded motor option? Looking for something better than the stock while still using 3S, and that is a direct drop- in fit. Thanks for any input.

Keep in mind that "better" is subjective. For some it may mean longer flights, for others it may mean more power. I assume you mean more power...
If so, it may be wise to consider battery choice. Typically a more powerful motor doesn't magically generate more power (unless it's significantly more efficient than the comparison).. A motor generates "more power" by drawing more amperage from the battery. Any motor will be limited by a pack that's already being pushed to its limit, so upgrading to a more powerful motor may not even be noticeable since its (potentially) not the weakest link in the chain.
That said, if you're using top quality high discharge packs (such as Evo25 or the new Evo30, you may want to give the Neu 1107H 1.5y a shot. Its supposed to be the top motor for 3s. I run Neu motors in both my larger helis (Swift and e620) and they are truly top quality.
