Has anyone tried the gy401 with the cordless digital servo? I'm thinking about getting it but the price is 229.

Cool! This is going to help with that pesky coiled up cord that always clutters up the tail boom.
Seriously, I'm not sure. The talk is that it maintains same torque and speed with a lower power draw from the battery.
Are you referring to the GY401 and 9254 combo? Excellent combo and that is the servo meant for that gyro. The combo is available for about $182.

Thanks for the info. If I don't go with the combo (the servo is fairly large) what's the next best servo to use with that gyro?
Thanks

Are you refering to the BLS 251 servo that has the brushless motor? The BLS is $140 at Tower Hobbies

The GY401 with 9254 coreless digital servo is $219 at Tower,

I have not seen the BLS251 offered in a combo deal with the GY401.
The GY 401 with 9254 can be purchased at other places like Ron's HP South for $185.
I have not seen a servo that is cordless. Everyone I have seen has a lead that will plug into the receiver. So I guessing you meant to type coreless instead of cordless. Coreless refers to the servo not having an armature as a motor normally would.

Thank you. I talked to the guy at the hobby shop here in Denver and it sounded like he said "cordless". I should have known better. Anyway,I'm fairly new to this. I have a Venom 3DXL (which everyone says is no good) and I'm obsessed with making it better. I've changed the head and tail to metal, switched to a 2.4 which performs flawlessly (all glitching is gone) and replaced all servos except the tail. From my limited exerience it seems to fly really well. Now I would like to change the gyro and tail servo. Is this a straightforward procedure? Are there starting values or numbers you could give me as a starting point or are these covered in the instructions?
Thanks for you help and advice.

What gyro does it have in it now? What tail servo. The Venom is similar to the Trex 450. But the similarity is in size only. There is so many clones of these type helis it is just about unreal.
Yes swapping the gyro should be fairly straight forward, The 9257 Futaba servo is probably the one you would want to use with the GY 401
For the money you have spent on the Venom, you could have gotten a heli like the Trex to begin with not had to spend anymore money on it.

LOL, I was sitting here trying to figure out how they could power a current hungry servo without a cord (no small battery I know of), and why it would make sense to transmit the control signal to it. Glad David cleared that up quick!

FWIW the BLS 251 doesn't work with the 401 it's a short pulse servo for the 601/611
