Aox, was wondering the same.... I might take a ride down there... I'm going to pick up some stuff for other guys Helis Im working on @ gyro, and than will probably head up there.

As far as driving the twin.. Why not just use 2 seperate motor drives on each gear with 2 seperate ESC... That would be the most simple I would think... Just run a mix from the radio to get them sync'd It would also save the headache of belt tension, stretch and static. Also remember, you now have 2x the lift, so you can at least increase overall weight slightly. Not neccesarily twice as heavy, but if you shave say a half pound your still ahead of what the original lifting weight for a single head assembly was to start with.

This looks to be a most exciting endeavor. One may want to consider the disadvantages should a motor fail, or should a belt break. Ideally, you would want a design such that if a belt broke or a motor failed, you could successfully autorotate or even fly on the remaining motor. I know that the CH-47 utilizes two independantly clutched engines into a common gearbox and a torque tube that runs forward to the remaining gearbox; even the Osprey utilizes a common drive shaft between the two gearboxes in each wing. I am not saying this is the most cost effective design, but a good long consideration may save some pain down the road. The advantage to one belt with two motors is obvious, autorotate if the belt fails or fly on the remaining motor should one fail. With two seperate drive systems, should one fail, it will be very difficult to fly; imagine a gyro plane on one end and the other end powered (might be possible though). How big will this monster be?

I think you're going to have alignment issues with the belt and two gears? And where are you going to put the motor? Are you going to loop the belt around the pinion pulley for friction? Have you considered maybe a motor with a pinion driving a shaft with two pulleys on it, located somewhat rearish to offset the weight of a maybe frontish mounted battery? I think your idea is to keep one long belt, but I can't see an elegant way to accomplish it unless the motor is mounted aft of the rear rotor head?

What's up with Black Starr today. Fun fly? Radio impound? Hows that affecting the heli pilots?

-Aox

Mike and I were told us helifreaks would have to fly over at the plankers' field and while the heli is in the air all plankers must be on the ground for safety issues with the Irvine Co.

We should have a coming out party when Kevin gets the twinn-rotor in the air for her maiden fly.

hey AOX we will be there tomorrow so stroll on out to the "frontish" near the "rearish" of ocma and we can "accomplish" some flyingish .TFF hehehe

hangin' with the wanks with the planks !! HaHA !! On a cool note....

I ran into a guy I hadnt seen in 20 years. I grew up with his daughters, and we used to fly RC sailplanes together. He was a big hang glider dude, and still flys regularly. Cool guy, and got to catch up on alot of stuff. Small world this RC... Watched "BRIAN" ((the guy who likes to fly over the heli area)) do some damage on his P51... Gear wouldnt come down, and he planted it at the end of the runway... prop, motor mounts belly pan... etc... DOH ! KARMA ! Planks.... YAWN !!

What this beast will do to a rear tire....The big Ole pig turned a 1:35 at Willow springs, my 750 turned a 1:27,

sorry for the bamf...back in the day....

HP isn't everything when it comes to a road course, however, the only thing that can keep up with the Turbo Busa in a straight line is another turbo busa.

It's coming along nicely, a mild 300hp in a 500lb motorcycle, more later.

what does this have to do with RC heli's? When this is done, I'll be back out flying with you guys ASAP. :smokin:

Hope everything is going well.

Carry on, see ya'll soon.

Wow again! I guess that happens when most of the corners are right handers? lol
I've never ridden or driven the track in the real world but you must be really wicking it up around that last right hander.

Hah! I don't have kids yet, but they're inevitable, I'm enjoying my freedom while I still have it :D

Had a freakin awesome day of flying. Flew out 5 tanks in the Synergy back to back. Workin on backwards upright in the air finally. I've got the mixture pretty good, but I still think I need to lean the high end out two clicks. My carbsmart finally kicked in and went to the middle on the 100C setting.

Working on piro half-flips on the sim, and I think I've got it! Thanks a TON Long for all the tips and tricks. I've been working on what you showed me, and it's all starting to click.

I told Mike I'd get my ass out there earlier next weekend to hang with you guys. I'll try to be out there by 9 Saturday. I'll pack everything up the night before.

Glad that you've got it. Keep going and trying to do the other half and "sense" the theory behind it and then you can try full piro-flips.
