hi all i have got a jr x2610 and a x-378 transmitter

i purchased a mixed bundle of items from ebay and in the bundle is a lead that looks lkie the dcs or is it dsc lead

if i plug the lead into the training socket it auto switches the transmitter on

now i am a bit dubious to pluging it to my receiver incase it is not the correct dcs/dsc lead for my radio gear

has anyone got one of these leads so i can compare mine to it ?

mine comes with a what looks like a mono headphone plug on one end and on the other it has what looks like a conector that will fit a lead thats coming from my battery charge switch harnass lead but on the harness lead it has got 3 pins and only the middle and outside one is present but on the dcs/dsc lead i have it has got 2 wires but one on each side nothing in the middle pin

does it need both wires to work or does it just use one signal wire ?

also in manual it shows some sort of small socket that charge lead and dcs/dsc lead plugs into is this just to hold the plugs together or is it something special ?

sorry for bad description i try get some pics up soon to better show what i am talking about

Hey,

The DSC connection will only work with JR's Heavy Dury Switch Harness which has 3 wires as normal, Positive, Negative & Signal.

A DSC Lead http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/acatalog/jrc445.jpg

Pictures taken from Midlands web site, hope they dont mind ;-)

The 2 wire charge lead you show in the picture will not allow the DSC system to work.

What happens is you plug the mono jack plug into the Tx which turns it on, but without powering up the module/RF unit so no signal/channel gets transmitted.
The other end plugs into the charge socket of the heavy duty switch, turn on the Rx switch and away you go.

The little plastic lead holder is just that, a neat moulding to help keep your charge socket fixed in one place and not flapping about in the breeze ;-)

Hope this helps?

hi thanks for your reply only query i have is in manual it says not to switch rx on ? but it makes more sense what you say

i have a switch with 3 wires like yours but not sure if it is heavy duty or not does it have to be heavy duty or can it just be normal switch that has the 3 wires you mention ?

also do you have one of these leads ?
if yes can you please tell me if yours has got 2 wires one black and one white and what pins they goto on headphone plug

thanks

Hey,

Yeah, the Rx needs to be one but not the Tx. as you have seen due to it coming on anyway as soon as you connect the DSC plug in the back of the transmitter.

If your switch harness has the 3 wires already I am sure it will work, basically the DSC lead just needs to get to the right connections on the receiver to work properly. The heavy duty switch is just that, in theory better suited to the harsh world of model helicopters.

Yes, I do have one of these leads it came as standard with my 10X.
I dont think I'll be able to tell you waht colour wire goes to what pin, but I can try to buzz the out with my multimeter and hopefully with a diagram tell you what part of the mono jack plug goes to which pin.
I shall do that for you tomorrow, I dont have any lights in my shed and it's awefully dark now to find the meter ;-/

Hey,

Right, got myself some AA batterys for my voltmeter and buzzed out the wires.

The front connection of the mono jack plug goes to the White wire in the female Rx connection plug.

The main connection on the mon plug goes to the Black wire.

thanks much appreciated

just hope now my rx plug is the same way round :)

generaly speaking the black wire generaly goes to same place on all of them

i am bidding on a switch set for jr so hopefully i will win that one and get back to you with results

thanks again for your time and help with this :)

after xmas i am signing up with a helicopter club near me and having a this will be handy at the field

i also got a sim with my helicopter

csm r/c flight simulator v10 this has a bit that plugs into my pc and a lead that has a mono plug at each end i going to read manual as i might be able to use this lead as a budybox think thats what it is called to join to transmitters so trainer can help you learn how to fly

have you any experience with one of them :)

i sorry for being cheeky and keep asking, but evey penny i save on these bits can go towards other stuff for my helicopter :)

luckily i have also got aerofly which has its own lead ect this i have been using to learn on

Hey mate,

Your very welcome, glad I have been able to help.

You sound like you have or are just getting into the hobby, am I right?
It is a great hobby to be in and I have so much fun at all times and the forums are a good way to chat to like minded friends to.

Myself I have been flying RC for over 20 years now, helis more on my own eg. with my Dad supervising since I was 14. At 32 I still enjoy them as much only slightly more involved as well due to my involvement with CenturyUK.

I remember the CSM V10 sim, I used to have it myself before PC's got better and then the advent of more photo-realistic sims. Having said that the actual flying criteria & realism of the CSM is probably as good as the current high-tech sims if not perhaps better even. I cant say I have used the CSM in recent years but it will serve you well in teaching you what to do on the sticks, making it easier to try new things on the real thing.

If I remember correct the CSM uses a parallel connector port, the printer port on the PC I think? Like you say the other jack plug goes into your buddy box point on the Tx.

Ask as many questions as you like, this is one reason why I am here the other is because I enjoy helping others get the most out of this wonderful hobby.

hi thanks for the help much appreciated yes i am just getting into nitro helicopters

i have had smartek aerohawks did not like them at all so i then got a walkera 36 this was very enjoyable this was first heli i managed to hover :) since then i just got more and more i now own

smartec aerohawk
esky honey bee
walkera 36
3 zoom variants
2 ikarus eco 8s
trex 450s
raptor 50

it was after hovering the walkera 36 that realy got me hooked now every penny i get goes on my helis :)

i had eco 8s but was to scared to fly them then after feeling at ease with my walkera i decided to have a go with eco 8 and boy was it scary when i first spun it up but suprisingly it hovered much easier than walkera 36

i have not done any 3d flying yet just basic hovering ect

on the aerofly sim i can do most things ie hover , nose in ect with ease but not so on real thing as i still need to get better at setting the actual hellis up but feel i could fly better once i have mastered the setting up side :)

simliar to you it was my father who set me off with r/c stuff first it was cars then boats then planes but i always wanted helicopter as i feel this is the hardest to master and gives more challenge

lol my room for my models looks like a model shop i got to start selling some soon to fund my helicopter as in january of next year i going to join a club to get lessons and help with my raptor

yes this forum has been my main source of info plus a few other sites i try and save all info on my pc and on my website that is relevant to me so i can use it as a reference base for my models

roll on january :)

thanks again

Hey,

Brilliant, your amassing quite a nice fleet there thats for sure!
Like you say once you start you can never stop, one model leads to another, which then leads to other upgrades and before you know it your in need of more money ;-)

You should see my spare room, I moved into my first house with the Fiancee a year ago Dec. 1st and the spare room is my workshop. She wants it as a guest room, no chance! ;-)

The high power electrics can be quite intimidating, your Eco8 was obviously bigger and more powerful than the Smartech and so that is the worrying point. Combined with the higher rotor speed and your nerves do get tested. My very own Century Swift running 6s LiPo power runs at 2000rpm+ on the head, it's quiet but you can certainly hear and see the rotors turning very fast thats for sure.

I have started my own flight school as there is no one in my area so far offering lessons, which allows me to be around a hobby I enjoy & help others on a one to one basis as well.
I also write the helicopter column in the aeroplane magazine AMI, there has been a recent series of setup articles I have written in them which may have been of interest to you. Another looking at moving outside the hover will come next year now.

The best advice I can give to you when it comes to learning to fly is a classic saying and that is "learn to walk before you can run". The sims are a great tool but can allow the flier to advance perhaps a little too soon into the real technical flying before mastering the basics and fundamentals of helicopters, namely hovering at all angles for instance.

I am sure you will try to attend some shows or fly-ins next year if so you will have to come and find me to say hello, I am normally at the major ones with CenturyUK.
A good fly-in for the whole family is the Charmouth Fly-In held down the South-west coast in Lyme Regis and attracts a lot of the top fliers for a fun, helicopter filled weekend. The local caravan/hotel park allows us to stay the weekend in their accomodation for good prices to.

yes i know what you mean about the sim but i think most people dont realise that the helis in the sim are ready setup for them plus the nerves are not there like with there real model crash in sim dont cost anything crash with model costs a lot

its the setting up part i find the hardest at min especialy the gyro i keep reading and trying what i have read and still i have problems i get the general idea how it all works ect but putting it in practice now thats another thing lol

this is why i am not trying anything silly till i feel i can control the helli in the hover all directions and that it goes where i want it to

i am also keep watching setup videos and keep learning all the time how to setup my helicopters correctly

sometimes i read something and it goes right over my head then i read it again later and some of it starts to sink in :)

lol with the room i know what you mean at min mine is a section of my main room because i live in a flat :)
i have already told my partner i want 1 room and loft when we get a house :)

she has banned me from testing my micros in room because i hit tv :(

luckily there is a good heli club where i live they have an outdoor field with some approved fliers who are always there for advice/help/and setting up your machine ect and they also have a local indoor place at a pub they run on weekends for micro mini helis, not bad prices think its 25.00 for insurance and 35.00 ish for years membership the indoor one charges 5.00 per visit

i won the jr switch complete so hopefully when its delivered i can test the lead for my radio wondered why my original switch had 3 wires going into rx but only 2 wires coming out to charger lead the new switch has got 3 and 3

is the x2610 tx a newer model than the x-378 ?
i know the 378 has 7 chanels and the x2160 has 6

i using the x-378 with nitro heli cos thats what came with it and everything setup on that one the x2610 i have got all my other helis setup on that one but they all using gws rx where my nitro helli has got jr rx jr servos ect all matching

it took me a long time to work out all settings and menus on x2610 but i am used to that one now

i got to start over with the x378 as its a bit different to get to various menus but good thing with this one it has got a flight timer on it with an alarm

thanks
steve

Hey Mate,

Yeah, you've hit the nail on the head with your first comment. The sim models come setup to fly well and so can instill a false confidence in people at times.
Having said that with 3D and govenors it's pretty simple to setup a machine now to do the aggresive stuff. Setup +-10/11 degree's of pitch, dial in the govenor to 1800~2000rpm and your away assuming your engines is tuned right ;-)

A lot of the stuff you'll learn will be from others, these forums are a good source and magazines but it does help if you can get outside help. Myself I did it all on my own, the model clubs I belonged to didn't have any other heli fliers at the time and so I setup my models and tested them on my own. My Dad while with me was not even at that stage and so was a spectator.... or should that be sponsor at the time ;-)

LOL, my partner also hates me flying small models in the living room to. At first she hated me flying one of the little PiccoZ's near her but as she now has the pinky version we fly them together.
Bless her, I drag her along to all the model events I attend and dont really get any complaints just shopping trip requests.

Yes, the X2610 is a newer transmitter than the 388 but I am trying to remember if the 388 has more pitch & throttle curve points than the 2610. I think it does with 5 points rather than the 2610's 3 which are low, mid & high. Either way both very good sets and so will serve you well, also you have the makings for a buddy box system if the local club expert if up for buddying you.

Wait till you get asked to help setup someone's mdoel with a Futaba transmitter, now those are more difficult i find than JR's programming.
With that statement I risk opening up a big can of worms ;-) LOL

Both makes are very good but using one or the other you soon get used to the way things are done and prefer one way over the other, I fly all JR with a 10X and 9XII and so prefer JR's programming options.

lol i wish my partner would get into my hobby she just likes shopping but dam it takes her ages i already know what i want when walk in a shop

i tried to get her into r/c cars even baught her a 1/10 battery one to get used to it but she not interested in being out in the cold :)

good thing she dont mind me having my hobbies and even buys me stuff for it which is always a bonus

lol when i went to pick up raptor 50 i dare not tell her size of it she nearly has hart attack when i got back to car with it but i had a big cheesu grin on my face :)

i been adding up what i spent on my eco 8 cant belive its actualy cost me more than my raptor upto now

the jr xp2610 has also got 5 point pitch and throttle curves also

i goto start making time to put all my stuff together as at min i got loads of projects half finnished but never seem to have time to spend on them

i got a new kyosho inferno gt had it a year and never fired it up yet :( but at min i spending more time with my hellis than my cars

lol i got an incling my partner getting me a plane for xmas or i hope she is because i had choice money or pressi and took her to model shop and my eyes lit up got all giddy at new stuff they had so hope she took the suttle big hint i gave lol i be gutted on xmas day if not :)

this hobby is definatly an addiction good job i dont drink ect

i gona have to go to one of them shows i keep promising myself i gona go would love to see them hellis flying instead of just watching videos of them
