The HBK2 has been flying for a couple weeks now and is working really well. A much better experience than the Blade CP. I'm now going through the heli again, checking and tuning to optimize an otherwise great running bird. I'm just starting out so currently I'm working on hovering and feel pretty comfortable in 2 and half orientations. Just started the left side and its coming along nicely,

The motor is an Esky 3800, with a reported efficiency of 80. Right now I have a 9 tooth pinion and the readyheli calculator reports and unloaded headspeed of 2169. I'm wondering if it would be better to bump up to a 10 (2410) or 11 (2651). I'm running wood blades and probably won't be going to CF for a while.

Curves for normal mode are:

Throttle 0 48 80 90 100.
Pitch 40 45 50 75 100

Hover is happening about 3/4 stick so around 90 throttle.

i asked a similar question in rcu esky forum...here was my question...

I'm wondering if someone can comment on a motor/pinion problem?
I haven't totally given up on trying a RCer Warp4 BL4-15-2 3880Kv brushless motor. Because of the motor's 3mm shaft, the smallest pinion I can find is 11t. I believe that will yield around 2700 headspeed, and with the 75g weight of the motor, I've pretty much decided to go with the Esky 3800kv and 9t...Anyway, I'd appreciate any feedback...(I posted on RCG, but no feedback.) Thanks…Ken

...and here was the reply...

I run a 3900kv with a 10t and a 11t and like they way it handles, Just dont run wood blades as they tend to fall apart at that much speed. The 10 works great for general hovering and forward flight, The 11t gets alot more ground effect and makes the heli really responsive and is great for 3d flying.

Thanks for the reply. Are you still running the 9t with the 3800kv? I'm running wood blades so it sounds like a 9t is not too bad and a 10t would be the most I'd want to run until I go to CF blades.

hi gregor...good to hear you're liking your hbk2, and thanks for posting your xmtr settings...my hbk2 just arrived from jaghobbies, so i'm not talking from actual experience with the hbk2...you might want to visit the forum below...nice bunch of helpful hbk2 flyers...so i'm not really a hbk2 flyer yet...but i did stay at a holiday inn express...hehehe...ken
