where is a good place to buy the Spartan Gyro online?
Thanks!

Installed the BLS451 cyclic servos, wire braided my WR 5A BEC and mounted it, ran wires, test fitted the motor and it all looks fairly clean. The gyro is not permanently mounted yet or wires completely tied down since I might try the Spartan DS760 on my Trex450 first. The guide hole through the bottom compartment turned out good and it leaves a clean look. The only concern I have is that non-braided wires might get some abrasion so I will do something about that. Also, I drilled holes through the bulkhead with the intent of running the BEC power through but changed my mind and they aren't used now (no harm though).

For the BEC, I installed a Deans connector so I can untap it from the ESC and use a 3S battery on the bench without unplugging the motor when I'm doing radio adjustment. Also, tuned my pitch, trim, and cyclic range and its all dialed in perfect.

Settings are:
Pitch:
Normal -5/10
Idle1 +/-10 (expo 20) - starting with more expo than normal until I get a feel for the responsiveness
Idle2 +/-12 (expo 10)

Cyclic +/-7.5

Throttle:
Will wait until I get ESC installed (Jazz 80) but aiming for normal (60), idle1 (70), idle 2(75) to start and then work up from there after taching.

Here are some pictures with the canopy and in the sun. Running the wires through the tail compartment gives a clean look.

Very clean looking for sure man. Just a friendly heads up and it might not be a big deal. On the Western Robitcs BEC, it is best to actually mount it with the label towards heli. On the other side as shown in your picture there is a square block, this is where the heat needs to be dispersed. There is not alot of heat that can build up there but they suggest if you can to mount this way so that there is good airflow for when or if you are really pushing it. Mine are mounted same as yours but it never gets "that warm" here and I am running two of them as well so mine barely get warm. Anyhow not likley a big deal but thought to mention.

Thanks for the tip Shawn, I'll keep an eye on temps.

Ordered a FP EVOlite 6S 5350 and Jazz 80 today since they just became available and may disappear soon. Hopefully it will be here by the end of the week so I can test fly this coming weekend.

Yea that's a fantastic setup you have there, you should enjoy it for certain.

So, this is probably an obvious question, but here goes anyway...

If I'm going to stick to 6S, does the 80-6-18 or the 55-10-32 give me more amperage capability? I know the 80 and 55 represent this, but I've also heard the 55 is under-rated, thus the question.

TIA,
John

If you are sticking to 6S the better of the two is the 80-6-18 for certain. The 55 can take amp spikes of 100 amps yes, but the 80 can take 125-135 amp spikes, which you can see on a 6S system.

They just became available today at Espritmodel ($225) and are still out at Readyheli at this time.

That's funny! After your earlier post, I checked those two sites, RH, then EM, and was placing my order when you wrote this. ORDERED!

I always felt funny running the 55 on my 500, but no issues yet. Of course, I fly it like a scaredy-cat so far anyway. Now the 55 can go in my "future 600" pile, which includes the 1912 and a Rx.

Thanks!
John

I decided to do a little video of cyclic speed testing with the new BLS451 servos. There is some resonance created and I was too lazy to anchor the heli down and redo the shot. You'll get a good idea how fast they are when I try to simulate a 'crack' roll on the table.:YeaBaby:

These are being run at 6V which produce 147 oz-in of torque.

LOL nice little vid Bruce. You should see 8717s at 8.4 volts, even more silly! None the less those look not only fast but smoooooooth. Sweet man!

Try that with a 2,4GHz radio! :D

Hey Bruce,
The BLS451's are great!
Get that thing done and come out to the SCHC funfly on Sunday.

Its been mentioned that these can run at a higher voltage but I'm thinking they might be fast enough for me.:YeaBaby:

You know I was thinking the same thing. At some point I'll probably upgrade. There is some delay between the servos when doing fast pitch pumping and you can a slight amount of lag between the two aileron servos.

Looks like the rest of my parts might not be here in time but I might make it for one of the others. It should be great weather this weekend.

Finally got my battery (EVOlite 6S 5350) and ESC (Jazz 80) so it looks like I might get a chance to fly today (or tomorrow). The only problem is my used JR R790 Rx has something wrong with the range so I might need to pull the Rx from my T450 until I figure it out.

That is one CHUBBY pack! Let us know how it balances.

Here are some close up pictures of the EVOlite 6S 5350 in the frame with velcro attached underneath and o-rings in place. In this position, the helicopter is balanced well for all practical purposes. If I grab it by the grips and rotate it 90 axially, I can measure it being slightly nose heavy but that is a more sensitive type measurement than grabbing by the flybar. As you can see there is not much room but it fits and could slide back even further if needed. Just make sure to cinch it down tight .

Nice O-ring handles, and pack armor ;)

I was wondering, each time i see a lipo inserted in the LOGO frame,
The pinion is almost always above the fragile top surface of the lipo.
In this case i see some tape, not very strong imho.
Why don't just insert a small flat or u-shaped piece of plastic on top of your lipo and than put the o-rings on...

Wow, the 5350 is close to the pinion. The Evo25 5000 gives about 5mm more clearance.

I use a counterbearing housing with 0.100" machined off the motor side and 0.020" off the bearing side. This gives 3mm more clearance and a little protection. Maybe a cap on the pinion end would work.

There is a thread about battery and pinion clearance somewhere

Without the velcro there is more room so maybe I'll look at a side mount option. I'm not too worried about the pinion during flight as long as the battery is strapped down tight but hitting it during battery insertion/removal is more my concern.
