hi all,

so after many hours with the machinist here is my new motor mount for the Actro 32-3. this modification was born out of desperation. the adapter kit (MA #124-110) is no longer available and after breaking 3 in 4 years i was looking for another way to keep my 10S setup. i checked out the X2 upgrade kit but i didn't want to go to 12S yet and in my opinion the X2 upgrade kit is not without it's issues. i like flying with my TP 8000 prolites and now i am very happy that i have found a way to continue using them.

best part, this upgrade kit is available to you all !! i am getting the pictures together and will do a complete install thread so you can see how it all goes together. it's very simple, uses some of the original hardware, very rugged and weighs only 18g more than the original.

i told the machinist to keep his CAD drawings as now the hard part (design) is done, it's easy to manufacture more pieces if anyone is interested.

more to come.... and yes i have flown it a bunch and it's great. you have to resolder your motor to the esc however as the motor now spins in the opposite direction.

Nice job. Its too bad some of the politics within MA allowed the S.S. to be discontinued. The original Ion seems to have been swept under the rug.
Let us know how it works.

Darren,

Thanks for all that Mate! Looks fantastic and if it works out ok for you I'd love to order at least one (maybe 2) ASAP.

We talked about this mod a little while ago but I did not realise that this also included a more robust motor mount (and a heck of a good heat-sink) and turning the motor around (no re-soldering for me, I use 4mm bullets!) to use it's 5mm shaft, instead of an extension. This, together with the better upper bearing blocks and bearings, really makes a lot of sense imop.

As an aside, for clarity, the picture does not show the outer battery plates mounted.

Mate, this is possibly the best 10s SS Ion-x mod to date and should help keep a lot of 10s SS Ion-x's in the air for some time to come.

If it works as well as it looks, I might consider trying an Actro 32-4 on 15s with it. I have avoided trying a 15s setup with the current SS setup because I do not think that the 124-110 extension shaft (with it's little 4mm grub-screw) is up to it.

Now all we need is for MA (or someone?) to come out with 110-150t main gears. Coupled with 12-15t 6mm shaft pinions, the sky's the limit imop!
