How would you determine the fast chargeing rate for a Li-Po battery?

The maximum safe rate for all lipo is 1C, or equal to the battery capacity.
So a 2100 mAH pack can safely be charged at 2.1 amp (1 amp = 1000 mA). A 1320 pack at 1.3 amps, etc.
Some packs are rated to be charged at up to 3C (6.2 amps for a 2100 pack) but very few people are willing to risk the potentail damage to the pack.

Would a 2170 be OK at 2.2 amps? Or should you stick with 2.1?

I wouldn't risk charging it too fast.

I charge my FP 2170's at 2.2 A. But I think the FP's are rated for charging up to 2C, but still not recommended.
From FP / uk
"(All) fast charging of rechargeable chemistry results in a reduction in cycle life, it is therefore recommended that fast charging be done when time is of the essence."

1C is 2.17 amps, so 2.2 amps isn't a big deal.
OTOH the difference in charging at 2.2 amps versus 2.1 amps is a couple of minutes.
I am charging my 2100 (+/-) at 2.5 amps.
