View Full Version : LiPo storage charging ????

Ok, when I am able to fly almost daily, I have been charging my LiPo's after I fly, ready for the next day.

Now that the weather is much more iffy, I'm trying to find out when it is advantageous to charge them to the storage point of 50%...

If I was storing them for a couple of months, it is obvious that 50% is the proper way to go, and, that would seem reasonable for a month, but when it gets to 2 weeks between flying sessions, or 1 week, or 3 days, where is the point at which either leaving them discharged and charging just before flying, or charging them to the 50% point for storage and then fully charging them just before flying is the best policy??

I don't want to charge them any more than necessary, and, particularly dislike having to partial charge them to 50%, and then hook them up again before flying, but I want to do what is best for the batteries ...... anybody got any words of wisdom on this subject??

I storage charge or discharge them when I figure it will more than 2 - 3 weeks before I fly.

If I am not sure, I just fly my last flight short and leave them at 3.8 - 3.85 volts per cell. I fly about 60% of my normal time to get a about 50% charge.

I noticed that 3.8v per cell is not 50% charged on my 6s 5000mah Air Thunder batteries. They are more like 22% charged when using the charge/discharge feature of the BC8 to get them to 3.8v per cell. Rcaccessories mentioned that the voltage level is what is important and not the charge level.

Do a search for other threads about putting them in the fridge fully charged. Should be good for months.

I thought low temps and fully-charged LiPos were a bad combination. Are you sure about the storing fully-charged part?

It should be low temp half charged
