Looking to purchase the HBK2 (RTF w/ 3800 KV Brushless Motor Installed and 1500 mAh Battery) as a kit from an online source as my hours don't typically allow me to make the trip to the closest hobby store.
http://jaghobbies.com/images/rc_planes/esky/king6.jpg
Outside of some extra main blades and a couple feathering shafts, what else do I need?
As a newbie, can I depend on the charger dipicted above? Which connectors do I need on any additional batteries I might buy? Do I need JST or Deans? How do I know which one I need?
I know brushless is the way to go, but is the difference noticeable between a 3100kv and a 3800kv?
I plan on getting a SIM and the training kit, any other recommendations on spare parts or upgrades?
Thanks,:noteworthy

I would also invest in one or two servos. The tail servo is ok but the cyclic servos do not take to impacts(crashing) very well. They sometimes buzz or make a clicking sound which tells of their impending death. On the whole the Esy servos are pretty good and I still use them in mine. I also picked up a swashplate leveling tool for a Trex 450 for leveling the swashplate as well.

I would replace the back fin. I found it to be too flimsy and I hit my tail blades on the first landing.

I put a JGF 400DH with a CC25 ESC on mine and it flys fantastic. You can get a barebaones kit for just $70.
I think its one of the best kits out there.

Get some extra blade grips(I use the ones for belt CP because they have thrust bearings), flybar control arms( I use the belt CP ones beacause of the metal ball), flybar, main shaft, main gear(the brushless moters tend to eat it up in a crash) spare gears for the servos, a head hold gyro, tail blades(I use the align batman tail blades), extra feathering shaft, maybe upgrade to a metal swash plate. That's about it.

Where did you find this Brushless HBK2 kit?
I currently own a little Blade CX2 but, at 8 years old my son is slowly taking it over. He seems to be keeping up with my learning curve on Real Flight too! Must be the video game generation or something...I was climbin trees at 8.:thinking
Anyway, I figure I'll go to the King 2 and get real comfy on a single blade for a few months before grabbing a Trex 450SE or 600N. I'm hoping to be into 3D basics by mid-summer. It all starts with a new HBK2 though. Any info would help out.
Thanks,
Mark M.

The hbk2 is kinda twichy. because of its small size. but you cant beat the price.
I just read the specs on the new eflite 450 and I have to say that they look really good. If I was just getting into this sport I would go with it.
the hbk2 is a good bird but there is no room for growth.
If you dont own a radio or anything, Go for the eflite 450. it will be easier to control and you get a really good radio that can fly anything in the future. Plus digital servos and a real gyro.
Im using the dx6 and would like to get the dx6i. for just a couple hundred more I might get the whole kit.
just my opion

Yeah, I noticed this model is almost ready for distribution. The size is more appropriate for where I'd like to be with stability vs. airfield flexibility. My LHS supports it better too. :( Hindsight is 20/20. I'll detune the twitchiness (is that a word?) if I can't manage it at first. The good news is that the HBK2 is a descent little bird and isn't really a substantial investment yet.
Any flying is good flying. I'm working hard to stay disciplined on RFG4 while still keeping it fun...and it is. Nose-in orientation still gets me sometimes though. I still hesitate or make a wrong stick movement and get behind to correct it. Focus, focus, focus...intil it becomes second nature.

Cool,
Ya, I still have my hbk2 and I fly it a lot. It really is a great little bird.
If you have not already done so, go brushless and lipo. the power is insane. it climbs as fast as my trex. Also helidirect has 1350 mah 3s lipos pretty cheap and they fit perfect in the frame.

Thanks JBuck! Those packs look good for where I'm at
Any recommendations on a good little BL setup for the HBK2?

The esky 3100kv brushless is a good inexpensive motor and so far I have been happy with the hobbywing pentium 30 amp optoESC. These two so far are really good inexpensive system. I got it from helidirect.

Im using the JGF400DH. It has tons of power. with a CC25amp esc.
But this looks like a pretty good deal.

Nice. That Esky combo is a low-cost/low-maintenance upgrade that's definitely first on the list. I'm not gonna go nuts on a HBK2. I just want to get into intermediate maneuvers with it and use it as an everyday flyer.
Hopefully I'll be ready for a Trex 450SE V2 by mid-summer. I'm following Radd's School and making descent progress on the sim. I wanna be a solid pilot and an even better tuner and tech.

Actually I have a HB king V2 that uses the brushed motor( I modified it using ball bearings instead of bushings) I just set the pitch and throttle curve to where it's most efficient. I also kept the belt loose enough to lessen the drag. It flies good 3D(no power moves like chaos, pyroflips, can do tic tocs OK) Funnels, raibows , flips, rolls and inverted hover are easy to accomplish(just learn collective management).

Does anybody know where I can find a Carbon fibre main frame for the honey bee king 2???
