I'd rather let the heli crash if you ask me. I can repair it back in no time. If I've severely injured myself or servered my limb, that's not replacable. Not a good example for newbs. PLEASE DO NOT; UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES TRY IT AT ALL! He probably had difficulty controlling it while it drifted towards him and just resorted in catching it by instinct in order to save the heli from breaking. Still not a very good idea.

I don't think you could sever a limb even with a 700mm+ rotor blades. It would be an interesting thing to see what a 90 sized helicopter could do to those ballistics gel mock ups they use on myth-busters.

A member of our club drove his Raptor into himself he only needed like 70-80 stitches but no bones were severed. ;)

THESE THINGS ARE DANGEROUS!!!!!

Several people have been killed over the years the most "famous" was a long time RCer down in Texas, helping out a newbie. The blade hit him in the chest and if I remember correctly, he was dead (bled out) before the ambulance got there.

I thought the blade got him in the jugluar on his neck.

There's that 2003 new story in Houston where a 60-sized heli "partially decapitated" (trying to remember the exact words) an R/C instructor, killing him almost immediately. I don't think I'll try to put your theory to the test... :o

Looks to me like he got hit by both the tail rotor and the main blades.

I think he was running his headspeed pretty low. If he tried that running 2,250 headspeed he would have been screwed bad.

You can tell he's trying to be a man for the camera, and isn't crying out, but at the end, he ends up putting down the radio and using his other hand, probably because his arm got out of "shock" and started sending the pain signals.

I would never want to experience that. I've had firecrackers go off in my hands, that's enough for me.

Heh. Ever have them go off in your hand, right as you try and throw, but it's next to your ear? That's even MORE fun. :) Good times...

Lucky!
I sure hope it was an honest mistake an only his basic instinct that made him catch it. If he was trying it on purpose I would like to say a few nasty words to the guy!

1- to fly helis he HAS to take precautions regarding himself, the place where you fly ....and most of all people and animals around you. If he doesnīt, he shouldnīt be allowed to have a radio on your hands.....IT IS A WEAPON! did he consider the safety of the camera man???????

2- Think of skateboard, kite surf, mountain bike etc...........believe me, I know : because some irresponsible and ignorant idiots that didnīt want to take the time to learn safety first, all the others had to pay for their mistakes, and the sport got banned from lots of places and got a bad reputation.

If he wants to chop himself into pieces, I can suggest renting a wood chipper for the weekend and dive in it! but please don't use this beautiful hobby and mix it with you irresponsible behavior.

There is nothing more dangerous than a stupid ignorant with initiative

An uncle taught me to hold them in my hands :). Well actually hold them very lightly between my fingers and relax the finger muscles and it blows your fingers away without hurting much. If you hold it with any amount of force though it hurts pretty bad. This was with the normal size firecrackers and not m80s. Don't try this at home kids it hurts when you get it wrong and it could do some damage especially since you can't really trust how much powder they put in any one firecracker..

Tell that to a friend who is and was against fire crackers. Took the last one an pulled out the fuse so no one could ignite it.......this pulling action generated a spark and blew up his hand. 3 fingers are useless now

Hince the warning at the end of my post :). If you hold on tight or aren't expecting it you are in trouble. I personally did it dozens of times like I mentioned but I might have just got lucky that one of them was not a super charged firecracker. It was also around 1986 when I was like 12. I like to think I am a little smarter now ;)

Yep, I know......just helping you out by reinforcing your argument with an ironic ugly reality.

Ouch, he didn't even show signs of pain in the first video, but the second video shows the damage. Those bruises are intense.:bawl They look fresh after the accident, and I could imagine the pain the next day. The trauma to a limb like that can definitely lead to a broken bone. This is an example of what a Trex 600 can do at close range. I think that he saw it coming toward him and instinctively grabbed it. These helis are not to be flown in close quarters for this reason.
