I have flown in a confined area (quick hop) but it was obvious 5 seconds earlier that he was in trouble. You never (intenionally) fly over yourself like that... especially if you are not a good pilot... Way too close to the face for my liking and as for catching it, I'd have ducked 'n dived...

He was more concerned with moving away than controlling the heli. Newbies: do not do this; fly in a park, far away from yourself. This guy is lucky he didn't chop his hand off or slit his own throat...
This should get moved to the safety seciton IMO.

I may not be the brightest guy in the world, but that is just stupid ! It almost looks like he did it on purpose and it backfired and hit his arm. Notice he didn't jump around alot. My 450 hit me and I was singing !

Wow, this is one of the most dangerous things I've seen. I can't imagine anyone thinking it would be a good idea to fly a field heli indoors, and then try to catch one when it is no longer under control. This guy is truly very lucky. Sometimes I find crashes a little funny when they are in a safe area 'cause they remind me of me, but this is not funny.

On one hand he did a great job a protecting his face and other parts by putting his hand up. On the other hand... RUN! Who knows what would have happened though if he ran because then the heli could have done anything without him paying full attention to the controls and especially if they got bumped. It could have gone at the guy taking the video who might not have done the right thing to get away from it.
Regardless I hope all the damage is just temporary and he recovers fully. Pretty scary video.

now that I have watched that a few times I agree that he was trying to catch it on purpose. First he steped out to get behind the heli then he flew it over himself to reach up and grab it by the boom just behind the frames.
IF that is what he was doing, He deserved everything he got and more.

He is almost eligible for a Darwin award

Or maybe the non-official holyfreak award ;)

It sure looked like he was planning to grab it, and thought it would look cool. But he was a real newbie and trying something like that... (i dont think even the best pro would do a stunt like that) that's way beyond real stupid morron with a deathwish, and he deserves all he got... but he was really lucky this time, he could easy have killed himself with that retarded stunt... or the person behind the camera.
If i where him, i would thank the heligods for saving his sorry arse this time, and never try that again.... atleast not when there are anyone else around that can be hurt.

I'm with you guys, looks like he stepped up, hit the throttle hold and grabbed it by the boom!
Yep, Darwin award.

I was trying to figure out how he powered down the heli holding the TX in one hand and grabbing the boom with the other. Unless his throttle hold was on the left, still would be hard with one hand.

I think he was handed the darwin award when the blades met with his arm. Lucky he got off easy (all things considered).
WoW!

I do that all the time!

The whole situation was bad. Not much room for error, things on the ground to trip on. I have seen a few vids of really talented guys flying the 600 in gyms, but that guy wasn't one of them.

Okay, I watched the performance of this fine specimen a number of times and I think that he hit throttle hold and tried to catch it, from how quickly it dropped. Otherwise, it seems like he would've continued to battle a dancing chicken and I didn't hear the main gear strip. He's one lucky fellow that the blade didn't catch him in the face and remove an eye, teeth, or worse.
Wow.

Was that Johnny Knoxville? It wouldn't look out of place in one of his movies. But I didn't see a disclaimer. You know, "Kids don't try this at home". What a Jackass!!! Wow!

I dont know man. After it hit his arm, the blades came to a complete stop, then rotated again. I think he had it in normal, and dumped the collective. it just didn't go all the way down. till after it hit his arm and he realized it was still giving throttle. thats the only way he could do it all with his left hand, unless hold was on teh left side, and still, when you hit hold, the heli floats a bit and the tail kicks a little. I think it got over his head, and he panicked and dumped the throttle.
And also newbs, never drop the radio on the ground like that while holding on to a live heli!!! If i was in that much pain, i would've thrown the heli across the room before tossing the radio like that. the radio wasn't broken. the heli and pilot was :D

Yea.. it looks more like he panic and tried to save the heli by grabbing it in the air.... he seams to have totally lost any basic survival instincts.
He don't seam to know anything about the size of heli he is using, what danger it include using that size, and trying to protect the heli like that... wtf is wrong with that person, these things arent toys, they are deadly machines and should be handled with respect

Yeah, I was walking through Oakland with my 600 the other night............... once they saw my carbon frames and my V-blades, .......none of the gangbangers tried to mess with me.
