Hi all, I am a newbie to the sport of RC and I got a question that mabie you folks can help me with. After I crashed my Blade cp+ while trying to learn how to hover, I realized quickly that a good sim is vital to my financial survival in this kick-ass sport. So, my LHS told me and sold me FSone. saying it was the bomb. The thing is, although I am learning alot from it, it does not seem to be geared toward helis. Anyway, my question is this, what sim should I get? I just cant afford to keep buying sims untill I get the right one, cause if my wife finds out I'll have to learn to sleep with one eye open, and that will really do a number on my depth perception, I fly in FSone with my DX7 and want to get the software that I can continue to practice useing it in. I mean, I would rather not have to pay for another dummy radio that I am never going to use, ya know?
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

You might try using the search feature. This subject has been covered ad nauseum. In fact, there's a whole section (http://www.helifreak.com/forumdisplay.php?f=9) of the forum that covers sims.

Anyway, my recommendation is the PhoenixRC sim (http://www.phoenix-sim.com/), which is highly regarded amongst heli pilots. It comes with a hardware interface that also acts as a copy-protection dongle, but it's not a "dummy controller". Software upgrades are also free.

Thanks man:lol:,
Knowing that, I will get it next time I get the chance I can give myself allowance:oops:
I was steering toward Pheonix but needed to ask the question for myself. I guess,
Its just that I was hopeing for a better practice and learning tool for Heli's and FSone ended up being more fixed wing oriented. Thanks again

Hey TB, i'm just about to order Pheonis online, and I know that this is a total newb question, but It [the site], tells me that no adaptor is required for my DX7 and then gives me the option 1, 2, and 3 for adaptors, none of which are spektrum? When I go to order
I don't understand?
I mean I seem to get a choice of adaptors that I apparently dont need?
Is the radio/to/USB connector that I got with FSone all I need? and if I get to choose one when I purchace anyway, which adapter should I pick?

If its not to late, the dongle( cable) that comes with phoenix has a round end that is for JR radios and spectrum with no adapters, for most others you need an adapter, so if you know your going to get a different brand radio like a futaba down the road you might as well get the adapter that would fit the other brand and just hold onto it for future use. go to their website and click on the support link and about halfway down the page is the info for the different radios and their respective adapters.

How long ago did you buy it? Return it - say it doesn't work on your machine.

I vote Realflight...

The "Standard JR MX/MC" adapter isn't really an adapter: it is the DX7 connector, which also happens to be the same connector used on JR radios.

Another alternative is to learn hovering with a fixed pitch heli (my favorite is eSky 4, check for example XHeli.com). You learn the basic hovering skills, crashes are inexpensive, and they are in general safe to human and furniture. Only problem is that they don't hand wind very well so if you fly outdoor, you need to wait for low wind conditions.

Thanks to all, I reread through the Pheonix site and saw that I should of been more carful with my homework. I now umderstand about the dongle, {funny word}
I bought FSone a while back so returning it is not an option, but it is a good sim so I dont mind keeping it. Its probably good to have two, what the heck.
I am starting to assemble my V2, and am going to dry run my first effort. I figure the threadlock can wait untill I am sure I've got it right. Finless Bob's vids are just what the doctor ordered.
Again, thanks folks:noteworthy
