Hello everyone. I am finishing my Logo 6003D flybarless and had a few questions regarding the electronic setup. Here is my setup so far:
Logo 600 3D, V-bar head, V-bar electronics.
Actro 24-4 with 18t and 19t pinion
HV 85
2 X Evo 25 5s 3700's
JR 8717 cyclic servos
Futaba 9256 tail servo
Radix main and tail blades (600 & 95)
Spektrum 6200 rx
I guess my biggest question is about the rx power options. I know I dont want to run a BEC. I would like to run a 2s flightpower li-po without any regulator but it seems like there are still mixed opinions. I have done some searching but I thought I would ask one more time. Can I run a 2s li-po direct to the receiver and will the V-bar and servo's be OK with the 8.4volts? I know I must use a step-down on the tail but thats ok. Also will a 1320 mah be ok or should I go for the 1800? Also which one fits correctly?
Lastly does anyone know if the Spektrum 6200 is Ok with the 8.4 volts and the high amp draw from the 8717's?
Thanks everyone . Sorry for all the questions.

Short answer: YES
Long version: The 8717's have built in regulators, the spektrum RX will handle the 2 cells no problem, regulate the tail servo down to 6v or less.
The Spektrum VR5203 works great for regulating the tail.
The 1320mah pack gives me about 3-4 mild or 2-3 hard flights before I recharge.

Thanks for the quick response. I was hoping to have a rx battery that I could fly at least 4 packs with on a single charge. Do you know if the 1800 will fit correctly?
So is the V-bar rated up to 8.4 volts too? Or should I run the entire V-bar on the step-down regulator? In the manual it looked like it was rated up to 7.5 volts???
I could not seem to find anyone that had the Spektrum regulator in stock either.
Thanks again everyone

The spektrum regulators are difficult to get right now but keep an eye out for them, they work great just for these reasons.
Yes the V-bar will handle the 8.4v input.
I run my packs upfront next to the Jazz, all fit, but the FP2100 are a bit long so I like the 1600's for this reason.
On a mild 3D flight I used 89mAh out of the pack for 4 minutes.

Don't forget to address the static issue. It can and most likely will damage your HV85 unless you fix it before you spool it up. I put one small wire from my tail belt roller bolt to a spot cleared of black paint on the boom between the tail box boom clamps. I have not had any glitching since.

I have a similar static bleed on the other side of the boom. I also use 2 8mm bearing instead of the plstic roller.
Crappy picture.

Not to hijack but I am not understanding the need for this static bleed, is this isolated to a 72mhz problem or what's the deal here fellas? Where I am at is very often dry, never had any issues in this regards so I am not certain why it is needed or thought to be on the new models?

Actually I am wondering the same thing. Is this more for the preventing of interference to the gyro sensor?
One of my friends that flies a flybarless Swift 16 is running a ground too, he told me it was to stop interference with the gyro.
Good looking out guys. Any other tips to help me finish this machine would be well received.
Many Thanks Helifreaks!

I tested something new to address this today. It's worked for others and seemed to be fixed on the 4 flights today. I'm waiting for another windy day to be 100% sure it's cured.

I watched a pilot fry several (yes, more than one) HV85 and one HV110 (IIRC) from what turned out to be a static problem from the heli. He was also getting random tail kicks during flight. Even using a different brand of controller that did not fry (it just shut down in flight but was still usable again). These problems just stopped happening when the pilot put the anti-static wires on his 600 3D. I don't know what radio system he was using at the time but I am pretty sure he is now using Spectrum.
On my 600 3D, I did not notice any static problems for the first 6 or 7 flights but they were all around 1 to 3 minutes. Then I started noticing a random tail kick, most very minor but one large one that got my attention. This would happen only a couple of times during a 5 minute flight. After installing that little wire, the tail kick issue has not happened again. (it has only been about 4 flights ago) I am using a Spectrum AR7000 with a DX-7 Tx. My SAE controller has never given me any problems from static and it did not give me any when the tail was kicking out. It may be less affected than the HV series.

I believe you are the one that gave me the idea to do it this way. :)

Shawn,
Low humidity days, dry climates, super high headspeed. all seem to generate more static electricity. I am having the pair of rollers, for the belt that install in the frame, machined from aluminum to see if that helps also. I am currenty trying a boom that has no internal anodization, don't see a differerrence, from one with, or even a carbon boom. A carbon boom is going to be part of my 600 3D short project., 710mm tail for 600s only, Neu 19190H/1Y, .8S long, 500 canopy.

So to clarify, could anyone recommend the best fitting flightpower or TP rx pack that will provide at least 4 hard flights with the 8717's?
Thanks everyone for the input.

TP 1320
See pic in Programming a Kontronik Jazz, Easy as pie!
1320 is in front of motor in little triangle. it is small enough to mount other places as well.
Getting FPs today.

I use a TP 2s-1320 with the align 6amp voltage reg and it is working fine so far. I tried using a 1400mah 5cell Nicd just to see if it made any difference and the heli flew the same as before.

I am using (2) 5amp Western Robotics BECs now in parralel, I like a one battery solution myself.

So that would make the system redundant too, in the unfortunate event a BEC died??
Plus a 10 amp rating?
Can anyone confirm the reliability of these Western BEC's?
Thanks for the answers everyone

They're fine, it just offers me the ability to run 10amps continuous, plus I feel it is nice insurance yes.

So how do you guys feel about the Duralite 6v regulator with the V-bar and the 8717's? Its supposed to be rated at 7.5 amps but tested at 10 amps they say. I know a lot of people have been using these regulators for a long time.
...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars & frequency pins...
I like how you added flybars to your signature.
ive used the 5.1v one no problem!

I heard the same thing...bulletproof to 10A...this is the setup that is installed on my 6003D!

Cool. Thanks for all the input guys. I am going to go ahead and order the 6.0v Duralite regulator. I have been wanting to try one for a while now.
