Did you order from Todds too? I got a tracking number for mine yesterday but it seems DHL is only aware something is going to be shipped, not that it's actually left Todd's shop. :)

You too, eh? I keep poking at the little reload button, but nothing...

EDIT: 10pm here now, and DHL knows about it. Mine was picked up at 2:08pm. DHL has slow computer updates...

Have you received your new power system for your 9303 yet Dan?

Yes but honestly, I have not opened the box. You will know when I do.

What are you referring to, what power system?

http://infinamodels.com/ has BIG packs that will let you have your radio on for 16 or so hours! :) I always forget to put my radio on the charger plus I want to see the power level go all the way to the TOP! Yeah baby! :YeaBaby:

Hi Dan,

Off topics but I see you have a gasser. Do you fly it often? why did you buy one, for flight time, size? How do you decide what heli you will fly?

Well I got it for AP but time and other issues prevent that

Hmm, my NiMH in my 9303 (72 MHz) is either 2500 or 2700 mAH. :)

We should do a hour/minute test to see whos dies first ;) I never liked the way NiMH kept a charge.

Keep us informed how that ion pack works out. Price isn't bad either.

But I was thinking, the new sanyo eneloop nimh cells supposed to hold 80% of its charge after sitting for a year. And they are 2000mAh. How about making those into a TX pack, and just keeping an extra one in your tool box?
http://www.eneloop.info/
they even come charged when you buy them. I have a bunch and use them for camera stuff.

Laptops and cell phones do not use NiMH for a reason.

Mainly size and weight. But in a Tx neither of those are a big deal.

I will still maintain that my radio with stay on longer even with the lower Mah. Unless you are coming RIGHT off the charger then still maybe. NiMH does not like to hold a charge like LiIon does. I feel safer/better knowing the charge I put in to the back a few weeks (or months back) will still be there when I turn the radio on.

I also have the same feeling with my DX7. It has one of the LiIon packs in it, and it just seems to last longer, even when on. I've never seen it go down more than 0.1V at a flying session.

The other advantage over the NiMH is that I can charge it in 1 hour if I need to. One morning I woke up to my beeping DX7, having accidentally left it on the night before after doing some setup on one of my helis. I had planned to go flying that morning, and was faced with no way to do it.

One hour later, I had it mostly charged, and went flying just as planned.

NOTE: draining your LiIon to 9V, where the alarm goes off, is a BAD idea, and BAD for the pack. I got lucky. This, however, is one down side of the LiIons - you can ruin them by over-draining. Hooray for low-voltage alarms! That pack is still working fine, however.

My pack has been holding well for long periods. I have good life even after a month after charging.

Keep us posted on the timer between charges and remember the second one is going to be better than the first.

Thats why I was saying to make an extra eneloop pack. and just keep it in your toolbox. It will hold 80% of its charge after sitting for a year. I use them in my camera flashes, and after sitting in the flash for a week, they are still ready to go. My normal sanyo nimhs would be dead by the next day. My whole point was to have an extra pack that always be ready to go, instead of just having to rely on one pack wether it be li-on, li-po or nimh.
I'm gonna build one and try it this weekend :P

I can just see leaving the Tx on for a week, puffing the lipo, breaking the Tx case, etc. :)

Why not make up a couple of packs from moderate capcity cells that can be fast charged? Safer, still fast charge capable.

And if you can't remember to charge your Tx every so often, I wonder what else you are forgetting? :)

LiIon or Lipo?

A Lipo 3S pack at 9 volts is the bottom edge of safety for the pack (3 volts per cell). Considering the low discharge rate running a Tx, there will be little to no bounce back of voltage.

A LiIon (A123 type cells) have a safe minimun voltage of around 2 volts per cell, so a 3S pack can go down to 6 volts safely.

What I would be interested in would be a 3S2P A123 pack with a something like a Cell Shield (http://www.dimensionengineering.com/CellShield.htm) to cut off the pack if the Tx is left on. The Cell Shield is adjustable down to 2.5 volts per cell, so 7.5 volt cutoff, which is well below what the Tx will operate at.

Or even a Kong Power type cell with the Cell Shield.

I have just left my Tx on after doing some setup work too many times.

And if you can't remember to charge your Tx every so often, I wonder what else you are forgetting? :)

Let's see:
- starting my timer
- turning off the Tx after doing setup
- flipping my 450 to see whether the 401 has initialized
- how to avoid the ground whilst in flight

I'm sure there's more, but as I said, I forget things ;)

LiIon or Lipo?

These are LiIon, but not A123, as I understand it.

I've not dived into making my own packs, so this one fixes some of my problems.

well I must say I am very happy with my TX. I just have 3 negative comments:

No printed manual
No throttle activated timer
And last but not least, no JR sticker!

I can live without the throttle activated timer, but the lack of a printed manual (and the price they want for one!) is a PITA...

I ended up printing the heli section off the CD.
