Hi all,

So it's cold and snowing here.... heli's are put away for the most part.

What have you all been up to? What new projects have you embarked on this summer? What plans for winter build?

Cheers,
Leslie

 Welcome Back

I am in the process of moving all my Helis to 2.4 Ghz on my new JR x9303 and getting to know my new HD camera so I can BRING IT with the HF vids next year :YeaBaby: Yeah Baby!

How do you like 2.4 so far Debian?

In the last couple of weeks, we have had several successful flights on the trainer flying out to distances where it was a SPECK. So far, so good on my T-Rex 600 and 450...but it's not like I'm pushing them to extremes yet. And our flights have been flawless on the 40% gasser. This is the one we "worried" about the most of course. As long as you take the proper precautions however, there should be no problem. ie - make sure the receiver voltage does not drop below 3.5V...we installed a Smart-Fly power distribution system to take care of this.

Well I have not actually FLOWN it. Hopefully this weekend.

If you read (and believe) the documentation from JR/Spektum it seems that the larger aircraft the bigger/better receiver you should have. i.e. park flier you can use an AR6100, 500 sized Heli is fine with a AR7000, but if you are going to run the BIG DOGS they suggest you use the R921. Although I have heard most people are running the AR7000 without issue in about every helicopter out there I am still going to install the JR 921 in my Ion-X

That's just about exactly how we have it:

Trainer - AR6200
T-Rex 450 - AR6100
T-Rex 600 - AR7000
Columbo - R921
33% - AR9000 (to be completed)
All foamies will be on the new 6100 end pin here shortly with the exception of my husband's tiny Yak, we're going to try the Nanolite 6300.

We also just received a Flight Log which we're going to run in the Columbo and verify what kind of fades/links the aircraft is "seeing" while in flight.

Yes that thing is a nice option to have I was just posting up about it here (http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=52398) :smokin:

Hi all,

I just bit the bullet and went with a new x9303. I don't have it yet. I too am going to start changing the fleet over this winter.

I will be pinging you both with setup questions :) Just fair warning!

cheers,
leslie

I really like the programming even easier than my 9C I would say

We will figure it out together.

Noooo! don't give up for the whole winter! I bought one of those RaydioWarm radio mitts and plan to do *some* winter flying. I'm just north of you, in Yarmouth, Maine. Yes, the change of seasons has me a little "skwidgy" but I'm not putting my radio down for 5 months! I also expect to do some indoor flying...

To your question, Winter projects include the following:
Obtain, assemble and test/trim a Logo 600 3d with V-Bar! I can't wait on this one!

Assemble my scale T-Rex 450 Fusuno Airwolf. It is actually stupid heavy, but "they" claim it will be just fine... I have the retracts and nav lights to get in there too.

Assemble my night flying components onto another T-Rex 450 frame.

Build out the mechanics to go in a beautiful Hughes 500D fuse I bought on RR. I have EVO 50 mechanics intended for it, though I'm not enjoying nitro all that much compared to my electric obsession.

Continue tinkering with my T-Rex 600e 8S. I got a hold of a motor just in time for a bunch of crap weather, so I've barely been able to set it up - only a few test flights.

I have to admit, I'm already going stir crazy. The Logo 600 is probably my version of a mini-mid-life crisis!

Let me know if you want to come up North for some winter flying!
Ryan

I loved my XP9303 so much that it was a no brainer when they said they were going to offer a 2.4 version. My husband and I used the XP9303 for both helis and airplanes as our primary radio for 3 years.

Hi all,

Glad to hear you love your x9303 Whirly-Girl. I'm excited! I do like my 6102, but it's time to upgrade to the new technology. I got the radio with an rx only and picked up some 6channel rx's at toddsmodels.com.... great prices.

Don't worry Ryan, I don't actually pack it in for the whole winter :) I have my radio mitt from Zack and I fly when it's not too windy. I also have a small fleet of FP Hummingbirds that I get tons of fun indoors with, I have quite the circuit set up in my basement :)

My first project will be upgrading my larger birds (2 450's and 600) to 2.4Ghz!! then maybe a scale project for one of the little guys. I'm sure I'll stay busy.

Cheers,
Leslie

We got my 3.5 year old son a CX2 for Christmas this year...can't wait 'til he opens it up. (I want to fly it too!) :lolol
