First post on the Forum and I just can't hide my joy!
The story so far:
Me and a friend got into helicopters just over a month ago; we both bought little Pico Z helis to 'play' with and this soon esculated to me buying a Honey Bee FP and my friend bought a Honey Bee King 2.
Inevitably these were crashed on regular occasions and we both soon became experts in repairing them.
I soon decided that I wanted something bigger and after much deliberation I purchased the following:
Trex 600 Nitro Pro Combo (Includes the OS Hyper motor re badged as an Align)
Spectrum DX7 Radio
Spartan DS760 Giro & JR 8900G Servo
Futaba GV1 governor
XTR Flight Sim.
The above was purchased 3 weeks ago and I spent most evenings building and practising on the Sim. I followed Bob's Build Videos religiously and today was the day of its first flight.
Weather was good with an approx 7mph wind in gusts and the needle valve was set to 13/4 turns out & training gear fitted. The engine fired immediately and was so quiet you could hardly hear it - it cut out twice initially whils trying to build revs so it was leaned off a couple of clicks.
The first tank of fuel was spent building revs to the point where the governor cut in then reduced back to idle - I was to scared to lift off being only a novice and the rotor blades on a bird this size are very intimidating spinning at 1750rpm.
Base of engine was checked and was lovely and cool so second tank was filled and a couple more clicks taken off. This time I built the courage up to lift off but was met by severe vibration - it was obvious the training gear was causing this so off it came - GULP!
Built up throttle slowly, governor kicked in, slowly increased pitch and she lifted into the air so gracefully = OMG it's hovering almost handsfree, Gyro working perfectly and tail rock solid with no 'wag'; no trim needed!
This 'copter is awesome - I got through six tanks just hovering and doing slow figure of eights (limit of my ability after 4 weeks flying).
In all an amazingly satisfying day with no crashes - the Trex 600 flies beautifully and is so stable BUT the biggest thanks is to Finless for his videos; they are superb!
