Funny battery story. I thought I killed the Align 3s battery that came with my trex450 when I soldiered deans plugs onto it, but surprisingly, I'm not an idiot like I thought.

About 6 months ago when I started this R/C heli hobby, I got an Align battery with the Trex I purchased. I thought I burnt it up when I put on deans plugs so I put it to the side. It has been sitting there for a long time and today I needed a better receiver battery or battery for a non-RC device, so I thought I'd see if at least two cells were good and reuse it in a modified form.

So, the + and - gave no reading. I disassembled the battery and each cell was giving a reading on my volt meter. I thought hmm ...so I got access to the PCB that make all the cells act as one battery and looked very closely. Low and behold, there is a crack in the PCB soldier trace that connects the middle cell to one of the others!

So, I guess they do ship bad batteries and screw us. So Align, can I get a new one?? :)

I actually have no use for 3s now. I'd prefer a nice battery for the heli radio or... a 6s battery ;)

PS. I hope Align reads this someday.

even if it was soldered right, it would've just puffed on its own anyway. Align batterys are crap. I had a align 6s 4200 puff for no reason in storage charge. and two 3s trex packs puff the same way. The do make a cool explosion when you stomp on them tho...

I'm sure they're aware of it, but I doubt seriously if they care enough to replace all of those suck batteries they use as an incentive to buy a Trex kit.

They should though.

What exactly do you mean by this?

The trace will go like a fuse if you accidentally short out the battery even for a split second. Are you sure you didn't short it by accident while soldering the Deans connector on? It's easily done.

I don't think so. It wasn't burnt. It looked more like cracked.
