OK I have been flying these Align batteries until they finally puffed. (Which did not take too long.) I was careful with them 2. I convinced the wife that I just needed to go with a well known manufacturer and get a quality battery and it will pay off in the long run. She agreed after we did some calculations on the # of cycles verses the cost of the Align batteries and she realized it would cost way more to keep buying junk batteries that puffed after 25 flights. So I placed my order for 2 Thunder Power Extreme V2 Batteries with a big smile on my face They arrived at my door today and I soldered the connectors on and connected each battery separately to a balancer to make sure of cell voltage and that the packs were in balance before I charged them. One battery checked out fine but the 2nd battery had a connection failure error. I pulled it off of the balancer to inspect it and that is when I found the red wire coming from the 6 pin balance connector ran under the clear heat shrink down the side of the battery and just terminated about one third of the way down the side of the battery. It is not connected to anything. Needles to say the wife is not impressed with the quality batteries that I talked her into letting me get I am in the process of finding out how good Thunder Powers customer service is now. I will let you all know shortly.

I'm going to take a wild guess that you're talking a 6S pack. If so, then the wire you found isn't likely a problem...
The 6S pack has a four-pin and a six-pin connector. Of the 10 wires you have, you need only 6 plus the negative to connect them. The last red on the four-pin and the first red on the six-pin are connected to the same place. So, taking the 6, plus one more for the duplicated wire between the two plugs, and one more for the negative, and you end up with 8 necessary. The last two reds on the six-pin plug are extraneous. If it's one of those two, then there's nothing to connect them to. It's just the way the plugs work out.
I'd bet your problem is much more subtle than that. In any case, TP has good customer service, and they'll get you taken care of.
Just curious, but what balancer are you using?
John
EDIT: Ooh, I forgot TP doesn't use all red, but multi-colors. Still, the point is the same that the last two on the 6-pin are not used.

Be sure to plug in the smaller of the two balancing taps last. If they are anything like FP you have to plug the tap with the common in last. HTH.

Thanks for the info. I am using an align rce 6ba balancer and I am plugging the small connector in last. (Figured that one out , Trial and error.) It gives an error message on both of my chargers, The Bantam BC8 and The align RCC-6sx. The bc8 says battery volume error cell connect. The other tp 5000 extreme V2 that came in the same package charged flawlessly.

Yes it is a 6s pack. Sorry about that! The right information helps doesn't it. Ha ha

I have had a bad pack out of the box, contact your seller and/or TP. Either should swap you another pack no problem.
In my case one cell was at like 1.4 volts. I bought from Light Flight R/C he paid shipping back and sent me a new pack. He would have sent that day, but he was out of stock so it took a couple of days to get the new one drop shipped from TP.

I called TP Tech support and they wanted me to check the voltage on each cell through the balance connector and I shorted the leads on the tester and it melted a wire. I called them back and he said to send it to him and he would replace it. They are really good people. I can't believe that I did that. When checking the voltage there is not a lot of room and the leads on the tester must have touched. The 2 cells that I got a reading on were under 3 volts so I am guessing that it had issues. I may have to wait a little while because he said that they had a small fire in thier warehouse and they are just getting production back to normal. I am just glad that they are going to replace the battery especially after my goof up.
