View Full Version : Eating main gears

Today is the first time in almost 100 flights the Logo 600 3D ate a main gear for no apparent reason, other than pushing it hard. Nice thing about it is it becomes a friction roller with about a 25% reduction in headspeed.
The first was caused by too high gov gain. The second a split pinion.
How often do others see main gear failure during hard manuvers?

well you got more flights in on your machine already then I will see likely all next season so tough to say. That sounds odd though, I certainly have not heard of gears stripping anymore, ever since the metal mounts everything has been 100%.
100 flights, you must have your vbar dialed in perfect?

Shawn,
I am really enjoying flying the 600. The next one is almost finished, perhaps this weekend it will fly.
BTW, take a look at the B3 file under Vstabi files, this is the one I like.

I've had one gear go on me, was doing a screaming vert takeoff with a piro flip when it went, think i just maxed the load to it from nothing to everything! It just produced a funny noise so i landed and found 2 inches of gear missing. I recon i could've almost kept flying.

Since my pinion separating probs I've had about 30 flights and the main gear just decided to strip - have fitted the counterbearing so will be interested to see if that helps.
Anyone - is the ali metal mount a 'must' for the 500 as it seems nicely made and is 10g lighter than the ali ?
Maybe check your 1912 for endplay and slop in the bearings.

Nathan,
I will check the bearings, I don't suspect a problem there as I run the counterbearing and frequently check to make sure there is no play developing in the gear lash. The bolts are also 4mm rather then the typical 3mm.

Curious, how tight or how loose everyone is running the mesh?

I'm running with zero backlash but not binding or tight.

Exactly what we do. :)
I still have the same gear since my last crash, sometime between 3DM and IRCHA

My main gear is out of round. Snug on the mesh for about 65% and then a little slop for the other 35%. Running the counter bearing and not many flights yet so no problems to speak of.

Mine is only ever so slightly out of round, not much to complain about. I set my mesh to be tighter on the high spot so in the low it has plenty to grab hold of. I haven't bothered with the counter bearing either.

Reinstalled a new main gear. The pinion had some pitting and nylon deposits on the lower portion. Cleaned it. The bearings all checked out. Shimmed the gear up 0.2mm, I guess the gears vary a little.
