Hi Guys, this isn't an advert! I am an active flyer who, like the rest of us EP flyers is sick of high battery costs! Im flying a Hurri, Trex se and Zap 400. I am determined to do something about reducing the cost of flying so here goes...watch this space! I have 16 batteries of various sizes which I am testing and collating data on. I will let you guys know the results as soon as I get done!

Which batteries are you testing?

We are testing 2200's, 3300's and 4100's but will expand this to cover all popular sizes as funds become available. I am spending my own money on research and early results are looking good (despite me landing my brand new SE V2 one foot lower than the ground today..doh!) Anybody interested in some small pieces broken of carbon ha ha. I 'need' to reduce the cost of batteries so that I can afford to pay for my dumb thumbs!!!

Bob,

I'll be very interested to see the reslts - especially if you include the United Hobbies batteries in your trials - they are very competitively priced - it would be good to see how they compare in side-by-side tests.

I will do my best Mike. It is gonna take a little while to do this stuff as I have a full time job here. I am using my own three helis as test beds (Hurri 550, Trex V2 SE and Zap 400, plus my mates Shogun 400. We are gathering info and generating computer analysist charts of each battery. I hope to come up with a good reliable and high performing battery at an affordable price. If I can generate a price war then all well and good. Ultimately I know (I have seen the figures!) we are being over charged (excuse the pun) for our batteries and I hope to address that situation. Trex crash today, skids, main shaft, servo arm, carbon blades, canopy....not too bad considering it took a nose dive from about 10 metres up and seemed to refuse to respond to my panic stiffened fingers. I am not the worlds greatest pilot but I am an enthusiastic one! If this project is succesful then I will try other stuff in the future. I work for most of the year in SE Asia so I am well placed to source suppliers....it has become abit of a mission of mine! Attached is a pic of my brand new rex moments from its attempted subterranian expedition. Sorry to hear it is cold and wet in the UK.....snigger snigger

I am helping Bob with his research and so far after a poor start what we are now seeing is quite promising.

I am waiting for delivery of a new Eagle Tree data logger (V3 shipping has been delayed again) so as soon as we have this we will have some real in flight data to compare.

As soon as we have chosen the better of the suppliers we are currently testing, we will send the packs to a person of high standing in the UK heli scene for his opinions and also to be fully tested in lab conditions.
Once we have this info Bob will be in a position to release more info and hopefully prices.

As Bob says we have seen the figures direct from the suppliers and we are confident we will be able to supply good quality packs at very affordable prices.

I have got to know Jungle Bob over the last 18months or so and I can tell you his intentions are very good and we hope to make flying electric helicopters more affordable for every one.

We also have some other interesting things in the pipe line and will hopefully be able to tell you all about them early in the new year, but as JB says we both have full time jobs and things take time to do properly.

Cheers all

Ben

I got mine 2 weeks ago. I don't think your shippment has been delayed. Eagle tree is shipping them out as soon as they get them together, but the numbers are a bit small. So, the sooner you preorder, the sooner you get one.

I can say only one thing - Eagle tree rocks. I took the whole sensor set and it's like the best tool i can ever have on a helicopter.
