View Full Version : 3DX 450 se - I can't get enough cyclic without binding

Hi. A couple of questions for you guys :)

1. I ordered an HDX 450 SE v2 but I received a 3DX 450. Is there a difference? I notice the 3dx450 swash guide bracket mounts on an alloy bar which is attached by screws rather than inserting straight into the frame on the HDX version in photos, and my undercarriage brackets are white plastic and not metal as shown on the HDX version

2. I'm not sure if it is the length of the stock flybar, size of the paddles, or lack of range from the swash plate but I cannot get the heli to react quickly enough on aileron / elevator for rolls and flips etc. If I follow mr Finless Bob's recommendations and set my DX7 swash mix settings to 65%, and use 13mm for the servo horn balljoint settings, I end up with a very dull feeling helicopter. If I attempt to increase the cyclic range I end up with the swash ball joints hitting the washout lever arms on full cyclic. Therefore I removed the silver alloy clamp from them and used a pan head screw to mount the black plastic ball socket back onto the washout lever, in turn giving me an extra couple of degrees and it now feels more responsive. Unfortunately what is now happening with the extra range I've achieved is that the flybar cage is now hitting the underside of the blade grips.

Would shortening the flybar or lighter / larger paddles increase cyclic speed for tighter rolls, flips etc, instead of trying to increase the swash plate range?

I figure others must be going ok with the hdx450 so I assume there is something i'm doing wrong in my setup.

Thank you.

Regards

Oz

Get a 220mm fly bar and lighter paddles
A longer flybar will make the heli more responsive as will lighter paddles
Gorilla paddles work very well on a TRex450 in association with the 220mm flybar.

HDX sell a set of carbon paddles that give insanely fast cyclic. Using these paddles it is unadviseable to have the longer flybar as well, it gives about 2 flips/second and it very hard to keep up with the collective at that speed. it also makes for a pitchy heli in FFF

AussieMick,

I can't find those paddles. Do you have a link to the exact page? Thanks.
