View Full Version : Fine tune auto performance?

Hi Everyone,
I really like Phoenix the overall flying feel is very very good and the graphics are fast and awesome.
I am not crazy about the auto performance as I have to use WAY more negative pitch than on the real thing and also other sims. Am I missing something simple and is there a quick fix for this? I auto a lot and I rarely go more than -2 to -4 or so collective, and with Phoenix I have to descend at approx 1/4 stick or less for example. I hope it is my setup, but not sure. I can probably S out the Hold pitch curve on the Phoenix model of my DX7 when I figure out the sweet spot.... What do you guys do?

Which heli are you using or is it all of them? I just tried it again on the 600N, I used just a bit of neg. pitch (one hash mark below center on the DX7) and had the sweet spot blade sound, lots of head speed with an easy landing. I tried it in FF and nearly hovering with the same result. The 450SE is the same way, too much negative pitch at all and you will lawn dart.
As an aside, with Phoenix's transmitter select menu, it is really easy to forget to calibrate the TX. This has to be done with updates, too. With the last update, the 450 was nearly unflyable until I went back to recalibrate. (Most sims force you to calibrate, Ph. does not).

You can watch Ade do this on the Knight 50.
First, select "view controller" so you can see his stick movements
Then, flight recorder / view demo recording / autorotation basic
His collective is also nearly in the middle.

Will,
How about you record a few autos in Phoenix (show the sitcks and flight info, too) then post them? I'd be happy to do the same. I'd love to see some other folks' decent angle and rate.
In the sim, most of the time I use my DX6 hover pitch settings (50-50-100) not IDLE Up. I'll hold it at 0 all the way down and through the flare. But I've dropped blade inertia on the 450 3D model by maybe 25% (http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=45567 #9) and increased weight. I still think the sim is too easy but what do I know? I haven't mustered the courage to flip the switch in real life. I'm wondering if I'm practicing bad habits not flying it down in IDLE Up and I really worry that the real bird is gonna coming screaming down (lawn dart big time) compared to the float I get in the sim.

Will,
Here's a flight recording of some Trex 450 autos. Any thoughts or comments from any of you guys would be really helpful.

I guess my autos really sucked, huh? Everybody's too polite to say so. (Or maybe it's a setup to get me to hit the switch in real life and make a spectacular lawn dart.)

raylepper, your auto's look too easy. Anyone else agree? I think the 450 comes down more like a brick.
There is just no way the 450 autos accurately. I regularly do inverted blade stop autos on the sim with the 450se 3D.

Dang, you mean it's not my awesome skills?:YeaBaby:
I didn't think so either. I've taken blade inertia down to .2. It makes it harder but maybe someone like HFG could give it a try and post his take on whether it's more realistic or just different.
The best thing I can do to help in Phoenix auto realism, is to play around with 'blade inertia'
Tweak that in the edit model menu, bringing it LOWER. You'll see what I mean.
