View Full Version : Poll: Anyone had an AR6100 fail?

A friend of mine had a 6100 burn out on him in his Trex 450, it might have been due to a dead tail servo.
There was scuttlebutt at the field that the AR6100 was susceptible to burnout due to over current demand by the servos.
Any input, personal or otherwise?
i have one on my 450, but am now concerned.

Not had a problem and I have 4 of them in various 450 sized helis.
Trex450 SE
Trex450 SE V2
RC-Tec Diablo
Dragonus Pro
I doubt current demands would kill the RX. Understand that if you look at the RX pins for Negative and Positive they are all connected on a large "buss bar". Power from a ESC ore BEC is supplied directly to this buss bar so really the RX is not having to control current draw from the servos etc.
Now if something shorted in a servo or a wire that put +V on the signal line to the RX then that could blow the RX. Other than that it probably was just a failure which can happen to any electronics.

No problems here, I've had as many of 3 in use in different birds at once without any problems.

The only thing I've heard of close to your description is they are susceptible to resetting should the voltage go too low during high current demand by the servos. I don't recall their low-voltage limit, but that really isn't the fault of the AR6100. IMHO, that's insufficient power supplied by the BEC/pack and regulator.
This should be a temporary condition, albeit too long for an in-flight heli, but post-crash the 6100 would be fine ;) . Check out this thread for discussion of that, plus links:

Having said that, my 6100-equipped 450 has never had an issue like this. The closest I had was a crash where my DX7 reset with my 450 in flight due to a faulty battery in the DX7. I sent that whole thing in to HH and they replaced the Tx pack.
There's nothing quite like watching your heli wilt out of the air while your DX7 beeps madly about F.MODE!

Had 1 fail in flight, and 2 dead on receipt. Not a huge fan of the 6100 at the moment.
No failures with the 7000-yet.
I've changed 6200 for 6100 in my 450SE (using 6200 for FPV project).
So far, it did not fail in flight but multiple times refuse to bind to tx from first attempt (lipo reconnect always solved the problem) and I keep tx 9 feet away from rx when I connecting lipo.
