anyone here use this motor on their hurry? http://www.readyheli.com/H_24_11H_1500_Watt_1100_Kv_Brushless_Outrunner_Mot _p/310102.htm
^^this is the 1500w version, looks like they don't stock the 1000w motor anymore. i'm just trying to find out what kind of performance i can expect, and i'll be using it with a castle creations phoenix 60amp esc and 2X 2100mah lipo. thanks in advance.

I just installed one of those in my Hurricane with a 13 tooth pinion.
It is a kick butt little motor. Unfortunately my average amp draw went from 19 amps on the stock motor to 30 amps with the RCP. By reducing my V curve to 80-70-80 my average amp draw went down to 24 amps with good performance for the moderate 3D that I fly. I am going to try the Revco gears with the 19 or 20 tooth pinion and gear it down so that I can bump my throttle curves back up and run more efficiently.

13 tooth pinion is stock, right? how is your flight times and what battery and esc?

Stock is 14. ReadyHeli carries the 13t pinion.

I'm have that motor and the CC 80 ESC. I'll be maidening her this morning as soon as it's light out. :) I'm still waiting for my charger for the FP 3700's I got, so I'll be running 2 TP 2070 Extremes in series. I don't think these batteries will work for the long haul, but should be fine for a couple test hovers. The two 2070's bundled up look so much smaller than the 3700. It's a real beast of a battery!

I have been flying one with a 13 tooth pinion and stock gears for a while. I can fly mild 3D for 4:15 min putting back 1600 mA on a set of TP 2200 extreme pack.

My experience with this motor (The 1000 watt) was a little different. Running an Align 75 amp ESC, the RCP 500 blades with a 13 tooth pinion, the Hurricane had killer 3D power but sucked 30 amps average out of my Max amps 2100s. (2000 mah in 4 minutes) This average draw was almost as much as my Trex 600. When I reset my throttle curves for 80-70-80 I got good power and put back 1580 mah after 4 minutes. I am going to try the Revco 19 tooth pinion with a 68 tooth first gear and see if this runs more efficiently.

X30Pilot,
I have the same motor, Align 75A ESC, RCP 500 blades here too. I ordered the 13T pinion separately because the XES kit came with a 15T pinion. I attached the log of the last 15 flights to show the flight time, amp draw, and voltage of the pack before charging (after flight). 2_1/2_2 is the TP 2200 Extreme V2. 3_1/3_2 is the TP 2200 Extreme V1.
Have you counted the teeth on the pinion? Originally, when the XES came, I thought I have a 14T pinion, but when I counted the teeth, it was actually 15.
If you search for my earlier posts, I have attached a couple of Eagle Tree logs that show my set up is drawing around 400 mA/minute. The headspeed never exceeded 2000 rpm even on 100% flat curve.
Cheers,
Dan

How hot should this motor run?
Hovering for a minute or two in normal mode with my 2 TP 2070 in series, with the stock 15 tooth pinion, throttle curve of 0 50 80 90 100, pitch curve of 40 45 50 75 100, the motor was almost too hot to touch!?! The packs seemed pretty warm too. I didn't have my temp gauge, so don't know the actual numbers, but hotter than I expected?
Thanks,
Jason

That is about right Jason. This motor runs a little "warm" :) The battery packs should not be that "warm" though. I have flown mine for over 40 flights without any problem so far. If you are using the RCP H/18 motor, 15th pinion is way too much for the little 2100 mA packs :(

Yea, I have FP 3700 Evo25's for it, but no charger yet. I figured it would be OK to hover around a bit with the 2 2070's and get the tracking and trims dialed in. I was just a bit surprised how much that heated everything up.
I'll have my charger tomorrow, and we'll see how it helps running the Evos. I'm wondering if part of the problem is I'm running the motor at probably 85% now when hovering. Once I get my Evos charged, I'll start flying in idle up, and will be hovering at around 95%, which if I understand correctly might actually lower the motor temp?
I'll have to check my headspeed then and see if I need a smaller pinion. I'm a bit reluctant to go 100% throttle with my 2070's. ;)
Running a 15TH pinion on this motor produces at least 2500 headspeed. Your Hurricane must behave as if it is possessed by demon :) I have heard bad things about the tail locking up at that headspeed. Even on my Hurricane set up, I fly at around 85% TC/idle up all the time. The headspeed is around 1700-1800, but my Hurricane can do pretty much what my skill can handle now.
I also have a set of FP3200 30C packs. I can fly for 6:30 min. The packs can handle continuous flipping without any sign of warming up. The motor is a little bit warm, but seems to handle well.
