Hello guys, I bought a "just broken in" Spectra G. This will be my first gasser, so I will be asking a lot of questions around here in the near future. But first I want to ask you to take a look at these pics I took and tell me if everything I will ask is OK to do...

1) The ex-owner had a wand start on the top. This is a gasser, I want to put the starter but I don't know if I can, the seller told me that he had a lot of trouble with the starter so he didn't even sent it. I will need to buy one. Where should I buy it, from MA, Hanson, somewhere else??? Also I took a couple of pics where the starter should be and have compared to several other ones posted and mine looks "different" or is this OK?

2) In one of the pis I locate my receiver where it should be, this is an XPS and should be 2" away from any carbon fiber or metal part. I will move the batteries to the space below the gyro. In fact I am looking to change the duralites and regulator for one of the jewel generators... Could the batteries cause an interference with the gyro sensor?? Anyone flying this heli on XPS or am I going to be the first one?

I have several other questions but these need to be addressed first...

I also purchased a slightly "used" spectra G. Love it. Easy to start and fly. Mine has a removable pull starter and shaft start on the top. My electric starter will not turn it over so im using the pull start. Your lower mount looks exactly like mine (except your engine is a rear mount, mine is front mounted)

What engine does it have? Mine is a TRM G231 with century v2 muffler.

What fuel/oil are you running?

blades?

This one has a stock 231PUH I have not started it yet, I have to first get to know the heli and that is what I am doing right now... I just received it last week. It has Radix 710mm blades and Rotor Tech tail blades. I will be using regular unleaded gas and Mobil MX2T synthetic oil...
Thanks!!

I'm running XPS on all 3 of my Spectra G's , rx is mounted at the front of the tray , battery is mounted above where your gyro amp is ...

Starter from Daves motors or Rons Heliproz South ( Ricks ) ;

I bet you'll love flying it as much as the rest of us do , it's an awesome machine.............

Hi Peter, is your receiver directly on the tray or did you raise it a bit so that there was no carbon fiber at least 2" around?
Do the starters come complete? I mean, I won't be needing something else?
So the holes for the starter seem OK to you guys?
Thanks for your responses!!

Contact BHHanson and he can get you a starter no problem. It comes complete though you will have to install the screws, tygon tubing and nuts on it to make it work. Also the plate that the starter enguages to looks worn (keyholes) from improper usage. I would order the plate and the screws/nuts for the starter from Minair all together. Then you need to remove the engine to put a new plate on there, just do it when you get the part so you get the orientation correctly. Also while the engine is out remove the dogbone on the engine and make sure there is a washer under it to make the dogbone extend down further to enguage the starter properly. The washer is supplied in the kit. You should check to see if its there actually before ordering the parts from minair and if not get it with the plate and screws all together at the same time.

The starter will work great no problem. I use mine since day 1. Starting procedure is key. Always enguage the engine first, then pull. Always pull in line with the boom to keep the starter on tight while pulling. If you do this it will last a long time. People usually don't know how to use it and get frustrated. Once you get the procedure down you will be set. And then you can install a Jewel generator to eliminate the battery concern/issue running out and having to recharge, etc.

I have the XPS rx's double sided taped to the carbon tray , then a velcro wrap as extra security. The bottom of the rx is 5mm off the carbon , aerial is forward.. got the same setup on the Stratus's as well , and never had a problem......love the no aerial wire thing!!

Great info Raja, thanks so much!! I will order the starter and the plate plus washer (just in case) directly from MinAir or is there anything special or different to make me order the starter from Hanson or any other vendor? Are those better in anyway? I thought that ordering all things from the same place would be easier...

Thanks!!

Thanks Peter, I guess I won't have to use much of a spacer then... That definitely is good news!!!
This gives me more confidence to sell all my old receivers. So if anybody wants synthesized and crystal Multiplex 9 and 12 ch receivers I have a few for sale...

Your main plate is upside down. I had the same problem. The pull start would keep popping off. You will néed to remove the top half of the machine and then remove the engine , ladders, and switch and mount them on the other side of the plate. Then when you pull the starter, it will always tighten rather than loosen.
