im running a logictech 2100t and a 9650 on 6v and it's plenty for the tail. endpoints at 115%, gain at 72%. holds solid and piros wicked fast. i'm no 3d king and this setup works perfect for me.
Chuckk: Does your 2100T perform as strong on the T500 as on your (I believe you have one) T450?

i've only run 3 packs through my 500 so far but i noticed on packs 1 and 2 that the tail was hunting a bit in a hover. forward flight the tail holds strong and i'm not making tail corrections. the tail stops very solid also...no bounce whatsoever. not sure if it'll hold as well on the 500 as it does on my mini-titan. i feel much more comfortable on my titan so i really push it harder. not enough time with the larger 500 and i won't really have time to fly it until 2 weeks from now.
at least my tp 1010 and tp 210 are both showing up tomorrow so i can start pairing up some of these 3s packs.
as far as the tail hunting...i currently have my gyro (logictech 2100t) mounted on the upper location biased toward the main shaft (more side frame protection). anyone know if the gyro would work any better being placed farther away from the center of the yaw axis? i would assume that the greater the distance between the gyro and the center of the axis would help the gyro to compensate better since it would see the angular movement sooner. any ideas? i could slide my gyro back at least an inch but i hate wasting that gyro mount tape ($6.00 for 3 squares is retarded)

Chuckk, thanks for 2100T info. FYI I use Zeal tape on all my gyros - one sheet will last a great deal of time, can even be refurbished 100% (see RCHeliMag article).

hey, bob. great build vids as usual. thanks for all the hard work. having your vids running while i'm building is like having a buddy over for a build  helps me remember stuff as i'm going (like don't forget to put the belt in the tailcase before gooing up the bearings.....woulda got me for sure on that one (AGAIN) if you weren't there in front of me telling me.
i have a coupla issues i thought i'd bring up here since so many people are subscribed:
1) i'm running 5s...readyheli's calc says 15-17T for Align's target headspeed. anyone know of any suppliers w/ stock yet? i test fitted the 600 pinions on the shaft and they fit fine. but, then i researched a little more and learned that the 600 is .7mod and the 500 is .6mod...so, not interchangable.
2) i'm just putting the final touches on my build...finally linked up the swash to the servos and saw the goofy geometry...so, i decided to watch finless' geometry 101 video. it all makes perfect sense....in fact i've drawn that little diagram countless times for folks coming into our shop explaining what the swash expo is for on the 9303....which begs the question: should we leave it inhibited on the 9303 now, since JK has designed *some* of the interaction out mechanically? has anyone tried using the swash expo on the 500 to tell if it makes things worse?
just something for discussion. thanks again for all the hard work, bob.

I dont know if the other pinions have come in yet. You might call assurance and see www.alignrcusa.com (http://www.alignrcusa.com)
I would still leave swash expo on myself as not all the interactions are gone.

thanks. already contacted assurance...just havent heard back since it's the weekend. i was hoping someone may have already gotten stock and i could get a jump on waiting until monday.
about the swash expo....i was more curious if the 'special geometry' of the 500 caused the 9303's expo to create more interactions than leaving it off altogether. in other words, the 9303's swash expo is expecting normal round-wheel geometry and is compensating for it. since the 500 already has *some* compensation, i was wondering what thoughts were on whether it's better to let only one system try to compensate, or let the two 'fight it out'.
just a discussion topic...i'm sure it really won't matter to most, either way.

Bob:
I see setups such as this with the AR7000 remote receiver on the frame side (also on 600's) - but I would think that the CF would block the signal in the side "away" orientation. On my 450 I have it on the tail servo - which also keeps the ant. in a perp. path.

Hey Bob,
I'm not sure what's up with the videos links on the first page of this thread. all afternoon they have just been timing out and I can't get to any of them. Just to let you know there is no way I could ever figure all this out without your FinlessVIDs. I can't thank you enough<<

I just received my 500CF a couple of days ago. I was excited to see that I got the red canopy! YEAH!!
I found Bob's build videos to be of great help. I did notice one difference though. In building the 2 linkage rods from the swash plate to the mixing arms, my manual (pg6) says to have a space of 24mm while Bobs video states 21mm. I know Bob has one of the earliest birds, so I wonder if Align made a change or what?? Page 13 of the manual does state that the 3 servo linkages should have a space of 21mm. Don't know if this is helpful or not, just thought I would mention it.

Tomie,
The Main blade grips are designed for 10mm thickness. The heli kit provides 2 spacers for 9mm non ALign main blades. My gues is Lepton type main blades.

Yes I was told yesterday the manual has been updated from mine and says 24mm for the link now not 21....
FreeFLow... must be your ISP or something as I am having no trouble with the vids this AM.

Yes they are working for me now. Servers are like Helis.... Both need maintenance!
Thanks

Hey Bob, it came up in the Trex 500 section that gears from the z3650 will fit the DS3400G. But looking at the specs, the z3650 IS a DS3400 with metal gears. Same size, same speed and same torque.
Sounds like a killer 500 servo.

well S**$$#...my 500 flies NOTHING like that. i put on 2xTP2200 packs today and it was o.k....just o.k. my headspeed was about 400rpm short of that (2450 at 100% 0°*pitch...according to the FDR)...plus i can hear the difference.
i'm going to check my motor lash right now. aside from that, my heli's setup identical to yours right down to the transmitter and esc programming. if the lash doesnt fix it, then what??? bum motor?
i'll shoot video tomorrow morning.

Brand new packs man... They make a difference!
DANG IT... I forgot to tach the head speed but it's gotta be close to 3K.
But that seems low to me at 100% throttle. Make sure the ESC motor timing etc is OK. Also make sure your Y connector isn't hold you back with a bad solder or deans connector or something.

no kidding! that's what i was expecting from mine. i was a little disappointed. i'm glad to see it's my setup and not the heli in general. i was hoping for much more than i got this morning.

Bob
i programmed my esc right along with your video (i couldnt find the directions---someone's since told me they're in the manual ). aside from confirming by the beeps, is there another way to check the esc?
i'll check the y-harness again. but, i specifically left all the shrinks pulled back for inspection so i could inspect them under the light after i was done soldering. one pack has about 30 cycles on it, the other maybe 15??? they shouldnt be tired yet...they still whip my 450 around just like they did when they were new.
now, i'm not going to be able to sleep. i'll be up at the crack of dawn in a few hours to hopefully figure this out

Bob's flying a "top secret" pack that he let me try once and won't again.:YeaBaby: They do pack a punch.

Well they arent top secret but they are BRAND NEW.... I bet if you got a set of new Evos they would be the same.... My 6S Evolite 2500's should be here soon so we shall see..
Anyway your heli is about the same as mine and certanly not what Cuda's sounds like... 2450 head speed?

how important is it that the packs are matched?
one TP pack is a V2 2200 and the other a V1 2200. when i recharged (separately) i noticed i put about 100mah more into one pack than the other.
i'm grasping at straws here. probably best to get some sleep and see what tomorrow's flight brings. hopefully the motor just needed to wake up :dontknow

Thats probably your problem right there. They need to perform all as one unit and one pack not performing like the other can certainly hold you back.

Bob, when flying the trex 500 is it a lot more visable than a 450, I'm just woundering because I have two 450's and two 600's and I have a hard time seeing orientation on the 450's but 600 just fine
