Bob, my maiden was Sunday in a stiff breeze but it would hover hands off with no adjustment needed. I have flown twice with a 3000 6cell and once with 2 2100 3cells in series. The 500 is even easier to fly than either my 450SE or 600. The set-up seems to be spot on following your instructions. Thanks again!

Bob

First time poster from over the pond in the UK, and just finished the build except electrics and radio gear (needing servos and battery). And just wanted to thank your for your time and effort for making these great build vids. I just followed everything on screen and it was a pleasure to put together.
I am still deciding which battery route to take either a 6s evolites or align 6s 2500's???

Anyway after having a Falcon 3D for over a year i must say this thing looks huge in comparison and i am really looking forward to the maiden some day next week!!

Bob,
At the end of your Trex500, you made a video on JR 9303. At the end of the video you said you were going to do another video on this radio with more details. If you have already done this, could you please show me where it is? I can't find it anywhere.

I'm building my heli with your videos and I have:
Trex 500 CB
3 Futaba servor 5245MG
1 Futaba tail servo 9650
GY491
JR9303
R921

For the vast majority of the build, I just have to follow your videos but the gyro and tail servo are different so I want to make sure I set things right. I'm on my way to my LHS to take a look at ther heli and see how they set up the tail servo since the one I have is different that what you used. I'm a noob and I really don't want to mess my investment. Thanks for the videos and other posts  :clappp

Not yet but even then when I do a more detailed go over of the X9303, it is in no way going to cover all tail servos and gyro combo's out there.

Setting up the tail servo and gain is going to vary from gyro to gyro... BUT the principles are the same! You set the GYRO travel to not over drive the slider, and set the gain using GEAR channel end points.

So my video still would not have helped you if you have something different than what I use on a specific heli.

Bob,
Thanks for the reply. I will try my best to set it up with the aid of your GY401 videos. I will probably get it to a point that I consider it's the best I can do but take it to my LHS for a test fly. They should be able to spend a few minutes looking at the settings before flyign to make sure it's not going to explote :YeaBaby:

In the meantime, I will keep looking and downloading your videos to be able to learn more and be jup to speedsoon. I have some problems with some terminology and I'm writing down I as hear it... cuz some of the stuff some people use here have me scratching my head :arggg:

Hey Bob, Again many thanks for the videos... Totally Awesome :D
How was my first flight - Freakin' Nerve racking .... Sweaty palms.. Heart racing, hair falling out.... Besides all that - Fantastic - The bird flew perfectly !!!
Geez, what a difference going from a 450SE to a 500, the 500's are sooo stable.

again... Bob - thank you.

How many of yall are using the 9650's on the tail. Is anyone having any problems with them. I have a 9650 and a 9256 for the tail. Seems the 9256 would be overkill for this Heli.

I'm using a 9650 and it works very well. Probably not the best choice, but I had it already. The tail is more locked in than my 450 was with the same servo and gyro.

Bob, my 500 experience has been awesome. No problems whatsoever with the heli, very solid airframe. I am having so much fun flying this thing! Thanks for the great videos!

Hey Bob,
Thanks for the videos, I have used them to set up three helis so far including one you didn't even do a video for. They are a goldmine of info to supplement the sometimes sparse instruction manual. The first flight with the 500 was as nerve racking as they always are, and of course my hands shake a bit. This only doubles the problem, as I use a pinch grip, but as long as I find the most remote place to maiden I seem to be ok. I always like to fly my Gaui 200 first, its kind of like a baseball player swinging two bats when he's on deck, by the time I got the 500 up it was damn near flying itself. Thanks again Bob and all the Freaks for all the advice.

My first flight of my 500 went good. No Crash. The heli is whisper quiet until idle up. Seems like it is not getting a enough power at mid stick in normal mode. But it lifts off with ease. Has anyone else experinced this. My 450 is twice as loud

My 500 is pretty tame in normal mode with default pitch/throttle curves from the manual.

Try adjusting your throttle curve to give you more headspeed at mid stick. I think I saw someone using 0,80,100,100,100 - that's sure to give you a bit more kick ;)

Huge thanks Bob, I just set my head up in 30 minutes with this vid, maiden flight tomorrow (weather permitting) hope it goes as well as the 450 did (still haven't made any adjustments from first set up)

In the list of videos on page 1 of this thread there's a note about this in red just above step 1. All 4 balls are now short ones.
Good luck on your build. I'm up to the point of installing servos.

Hi Bob,

I have been watching your videos on alot of your builds and I have a question. Is there a reason that the servos are mounted on the frame after the frame is assembled? Wouldn't be better to have the servos attached to the frame before the two frame sides are put together so we do not have to do all those acrobatics in order to fit the servos into the frame? Now mind you that I have not build a Heli yet but I saw one of your videos and the that thought came to my mind...go easy on me...lol;)

On the 450, yes, this makes it easier IMO. On the 500, it makes no sense at all. The servos are inserted from the outside.

Also remember on the 450 SE the frames come assembled. While I prefer disassembly and re-locktiting, the vids show you how to get the servos in with the frames assembled.

Thanks guys, you answered my question. I am planing a build soon and I can not decide, should I stick with the 450 SE V2 or just go for the 500?

I am a new RC Heli pilot but I have been flying real big jets for a major airline for years now and upgrading to bigger heavier equipment, was never a problem:).

I think I should start with the heavy 500 for now, what do you think?

I am concerned a bit with all I've been reading on the forums about the 500 having static build up problems. On the big jets we have static wicks that are on the trailing edges of the flying controls and if I remember well the Helicopters that I used to work on, back when I was a Navy helicopter mechanic had something similar on the tail stabilizers.

Is there any way to make something like that on the RC Helis also?:arggg:

Please advise and thanks again for all your great experience input.

beeflyer,

I see you went with the GF 500? Have you experienced any radio lock up problems due to static build up? I see a lot of guys on the forum having trouble with that, but it looks like most of them have the CF model.

Thanks.
