beeflyer,
I see you went with the GF 500? Have you experienced any radio lock up problems due to static build up? I see a lot of guys on the forum having trouble with that, but it looks like most of them have the CF model.
Thanks.
I have a CF 500 with a AR6200, zero issues... and a totally standard heli.

Hi Bob,
in the last weeks I built up my t-rex 500 after downloading your instructions. I almost didnīt use the manual :-). Today was the day and my 500 has been checked by a professional Pilot. He said that the Rex was built up perfect and there were no additional settings needed. So after a short wile checking everything my heli had his first flight. Everything went well...
So I want to say thank you for the perfect support !!!!!!
Many greets from GERMANY

On the Flight Report video at 4:05 you said that there was a 401 on it, I thought you were using

It's a long story but I had some issues with the CY gyro and the Align BEC... In the end my setup the BEC gave too much noise for the CY gyro to work properly. Later I used a separate BEC and all problems were solved. Had I grounded the neg side of the pack to the motor chances are (I don't know but I BET it would be OK) that this would have resolved the issue.
Anyway YES on the first flight vid I went to a 401 because of that noise issue. Later I found the GY worked fine.

Just finished my 500 build (Friday), made a couple test hovers on Saturday and flew for about 15 minutes on Sunday. Thanks to you, Bob, everything went great! This was more fun than my 450 build. I did use a swash leveling tool to set up and the bird was soooo stable in a hover; almost motionless (hands off) for several seconds! Thanks for all the help from all you helifreaks and especially Bob for your dedication and help with the vids. :thumbup:
I have finished with the build, and have left over 7 ball links, 3 with long arms with machine screws. In addition, bag 500HZ4 contains 4 more ball links with 3 different self tapping lengths and 1 short machine screw. So, I have 7 extra ball links................what gives? Should I have used the 3 with long arms on the cyclic servos rather than with the short arms?
have finished with the 500 build and have 7 ball links left over..........3 of these have machine screws and are much longer than the 3 I used on the cyclic servos.................what gives?

The ball link / pushrod illustrations in the manual ARE TO SCALE so you can overlay the ball link onto the picture and if it's the same size, that's the one to use. You really can't go wrong with this step.
You will have spare ball links of varying sizes left over - they're called spares :)
Cheers
hi Bob, just finished my build and I have 7 linkage balls left over.....3 with machine threads with longer standoffs than ones I used on the 3 cyclic servos, and 4 more with 3 having self tapping threads, and 1 having machine thread. What gives? and did I use the correct ones on the heli?..........I believe when you were showing page 10 on your video, your manual didn't show the 2 different sizes which mine showed in bag 500HZ3.....my bag contained 3 4.75 x8.68 (these are ones I used on cyclic servo arms) but then had 3 others being 4.75x13mm which I did not use..............thanks
thanks Leeph..........sent bob a post before I saw your reply............thanks.............just wanted to be sure I shouldn't have used the longer 13mm standoff ones on my cyclic servo arms...................grig

Hello Finless Bob Your videos have helped me so much used them to setup my 450 and now on my 500 I have one question though I was getting my servos at 90 last night and setting up the head on my new Trex 500 But my question is do I have to have my pitch curves and throttle curves set on my radio to do all of that or can I just have them at default or were they are at when I created a new model which was all linear Thanks again Gary

You don't need to worry about throttle curves for setting up the head (except make sure the motor wont spin when you move the throttle stick to center position). But make sure your pitch curves are linear 0,25,50,75,100. By default on a new model they will be set that way. At least for every radio type I have used.
When done you still should not mess with your pitch curves for idle up. If you new then you "may" want to adjust your normal pitch curve to limit amount of negative pitch. Thats up to you. I leave my normal curve set linear as well.

I just read Bob were you said that you ran an external BEC I have a brand new Align 75 amp esc Would it be better to run the 75 esc and a external bec or just run the stock one and try it that way I just thought that if I would be better off with the 75 I would use it and sell the 60 amp as it would be new unused what do ya think Thanks Gary
Finless

The 60 amp is fine so either way you want to go. You will need a BEC if you use the 75 amp. Your choice there. I have not heard of problems with over amping the 60 but for sure the 75 will dish out whatever you need on this heli :)

I have been talking with a guy that loves the Flight power lite evo 5s 4250 mah packs So I was maybe going to go with those That would be fine on the stock esc wouldn't it Thanks Gary

Pretty damn big pack for the 500.... I like the 500 light myself. But I am sure that will work as long as it fits under the canopy.

That is what I thought but he said it fit perfect and Balanced out great I was also considering the Flight power evo 5s 3300 mah

Yes, that guy would be me :-) And it does fit perfect without mods and the balance is right on.. I like the extra flight time..

On the Trex 450 build video section there is a Radio setup help video That shows pitch curves and throttle curves is there one for the 500 yet Thanks Gary

Use the same principles! THos principles in pitch and throttle curves 101 video apply to any electric heli as a "starting point".
But so you know here are the curves I reccomend for the 500:
Normal = 0, 60, 80, 90, 100
Idle1 = 95% flat
Idle2 = 100% flat.

Pardon my ignorance but are these recomended for throttle and pitch or just throttle and I am running the DX6i so I only have one idle up (stunt mode) so would I just set that like your idle 2
Also I am running the 9650 servos on cyclic so after whatching your electronics placement video I mounted my rec. up top But I was wondering instead of mounting my 401 gyro upside down can I mount it on the tray that was meant for the rec. Thanks Gary you are a big help
