Thanks Bob. Trex 500 build videos have been invaluable. One quick question (I haven't watched all the videos) . Can I run my HS 5245 servos AND 9257 for the tail, all at 6.0 volts from the ESC or should I run all the servos at 5.5 volts. I heard 6.0 volts could/would damage the 9257 servo.

I would run 6V to everything and put a 5.1V drop down cable on the tail servo between the gyro and the 9257. You get best performance from the 5245's this way. The drop down is like only $3.

Awesome Bob!

I got my kit last week and I'm on the motor install step. You don't mention locktite for the motor mount screws in the video. It is metal into metal, but then I was thinking maybe I don't want locktite dripping into the motor...?

The videos are indispensable! Thanks!!

hi guys when my trex 500 is between mid and 3 quarter stick at 50 and 75 percent throttle curve i get a lot of vibrations at 75 percent throttle when it about to take off it also wobbles a lot on the the ground. but when the heli is hovering the there is less vibrations but the skids still shaking also my blade tracking is perfect is anyone else having this problem or am i just being picky. also when the heli is up in the air when give it more throttle the tail wants to got to the left. but in a steady hover the tail is fine. please any help.

Superbob.... best to post these kind of questions in the Trex500 forum man... MORE people see them there related to the 500! I will chime in too when I can :) This also helps people with 500 that may not see the answer here! This forum is for specific questions about my videos not for direct support for the 500. Hope you understand man :)

Thanks Bob!

First a little history: I tried helis for the first time back in 1986, with a Shuttle. I learned to hover and that's about it.:( Then I tried again back in 1999 with an ECO8 and I re-learned to hover.:arggg: Then a friend showed up at a soaring contest about 4 weeks ago with a Raptor 30 converted to elect. His setup was flawless; I ended up buying it and flew for the first time.:noteworthy About a week ago I purchased a Trex 500, down loaded all of Bob's build vidoes and went to work. I test flew it today for the first time and it was spot on. The blade tracking was perfect, the gyro (401) was dead on too. I only needed to adjust my pitch curve a bit to soften it up around hover. :YeaBaby:

I just wanted to say thanks to Bob and the rest of you helifreaks for all your valued information.

The Trex 500 was so much fun to build, I purchased a Trex 600 and I'm working on it at the moment. This is fun stuff!

Time to charge another battery,

Jim

I downloaded all the build videos last night and can't wait to start the build. I noticed that the elevator servo was on the right side. I know on the 450, Bob suggests it goes on the left to protect from flybar strike. I take it that this is not a concern with the 500?

No concern on the 500... I put the elevator servo on the right side to balance against the tail servo which is on the left.

Thank you Bob. The videos are invaluable. We are even! Just because of my nature, I hate to see the tip of the four self-taping screws used for the elev. servo sticking out. I think I'm going to switch the plastic servo nut to the inside. Also, instead of the flat washer, I think I'm going to buy those special washer (M2.5) and use them to install the servo and also use them with the motor mount screws, etc.

I just wanted to publicly thank Finless again for his excellent 500 build videos. I carefully followed the instructions, put the thing together as per his specs, took it out to the flying field and was able to put it into a hands off inverted hover on the first flight!

Finless.. another big thankyou for your videos.:noteworthy

I started flying helis back in 2000 a kyosho nexus, then onto the legendry raptors 30/50. I have taken a sabbatical from helis for the last three years but just had to get the trex 500 when i saw it in the shop.

It is my first electric heli so your videos have been very helpful. Just hope i am not to rusty
on the sticks:YeaBaby:. It certainly looks good in your flight video too!

Bob,
Good call on taking the tail rotor thrust bearings apart. My socket screws had locktite, and thrust bearing assembly was correct, but thrust bearings had absolutely no grease.

One tip from a friend, because I used the Kasama main bearing blocks, I was able to use the aluminum hex mounting bolts from the stock bearing blocks, in my tail boom mount. I felt I could adjust the tail boom more accurately, with the metal hex bolts, and not have to worry about stripping the plastic parts..

Finally, how critical is it to locktite the bearings in the metal tail gear drive to the shaft? I didn't see this in the paper manual, and :( only saw your video for tail boom mount after I installed it in the frame.

Thanks again:noteworthy

Bob, great build videos. :noteworthy I'm having more fun building it than the 450. Parts are a little bigger and I can actually find them when I drop them on the floor. :P

Any concerns with the gyro on top?

Bob, I have the 9650 for the cyclic and 9257 on tail servo, should i run them also to 6v.

Thanks for the video...

9650, yes. 9257, no but you can use a step-down so you can run your ESC at 6V.

Finless

Actually using the 9257 for cyclic most people I know have been running them on 6V just fine. It;s when used as a tail servo that you want to drop it down due to the duty cycle a tail servo gets. I have seen failures of the 9257 used as a tail servo at 6V but I have not heard of anyone having a problem with them on cyclic at 6V.

so, if i well understood running 9650 all around at 6 Volt, will work fine, isn't it?

Yes. The 9650 is actually spec'ed by Futaba to run at 6V.

Damn I wish I had money.

Are these much bigger and more stable than the 450?

hi, new to these forums here. I have a trex 450 and 600 and had them set up by another guy who helped us out a lot unfortunately he was just killed in a plane crash and now I dont have anyone I can just run to that can fix my problems.

Any way I just got a 500 and I know a little about setting up the pitch curves and throttle curves so I did my best on the 500 and I actually got it flying. As far as the cyclic goes they are set up fine but when it comes to the tail and the gyro I am a little lost. The heli is holding its position if I let go of the stick but when I move it a little the tail just seems to jump around a little. Also when I move the throttle up the gyro does not hold the tail real well and the torque spins the tail end around to the right. Where can I go to get help with this. I have a 401 gyro and I am using a spektrum dx7 transmitter. If anyone can tell me what settings to mess with for trying to get the gyro to hold a little better, I would appreciate it a lot.

Thanks David G.

I'm very rusty with all this, but the 'jumping around' on the tail sounds like wagging, which is a sign of too much gain on the gyro. Try lowering it via your radio.
