Yes I hate stripping gears but my Hitec wont be here until like Saturday best case so I want to continue shooting the build vids and right now I am at the step of installing servos. I only have 9650's right now!

I hear ya Bob, makes sense...I was just curious why others were using the 9650s for the cyclic. Sure they were a great tail servo until the 9657 came out, I just wouldn't use them on the cyclic of any heli ;)

I curious what you will think of this heli once you are done building and your flying it. How it compares to the same sizes of the Lepton and Logo Heli's.

Short answer is: some of us don't choose heli components based soley on how well they handle a crash... :)

I'm just excited to see the darn thing being built! I do like the idea of doing a comparo between the two different sets of servos. Crash durability is not tops on my list but performance is...besides thats what the 450 Crash-Hawk is for. But in the end, build on Bob...we need more!

Me too Bob! Can't wait to see step 7. Oh! I almost forgot to ask.

I suspect that we have to wait till you get the HS servos ? :rolling

I'm also looking forward for step 7 and so on.
I hope fully will get mine in the Next week and building it with your guild is the best way.

Funny - I just have to give my five cents

Before I started to watch Bob's videos I would not dream of building a heli of my own, even though I am "good with my hands" - and I have ordered an E-flite Blade 400.

Now I can not wait to "outlive" the Blade to be able to build a T-rex 500

Don't wait, start building your 500 now. That way when you crash your Blade, you will have something else to fly. :)

Bob,

Are you going to run a standard sized tail servo on your 500? I think it would be pretty awesome. The only problem I can see is how well is it going to balance?

First build no I am going to run a 3400G. After that I will throw on a 9254 and see how well it balances.

I know its not meant to be, but I would like to use STANDARD SIZE SERVOS (I have a spare set of Z9000s).

Has anyone considered that?

Since I did not receive my 500 yet, there is no way of measuring for me.

I would very much appreciate some remarks in the build video about this like:
- possible with sawing, grinding the frame etc. or
- impossible, because no frame left after enlarging the hole.

I think the frame would have had enough space for std servos when the servo holes were in parallel to the battery tray.

looking forward for your next piece of excellent art work :)

NO WAY are you going to get full sized servos in this thing.

You will see when I do the vid and SURE I will show you why.

Bob, don't you have to trim off "tangs" for the 9650's to fit?

Of course you do..... I didnt show that since I had done it to these servos a long time ago. If you want to see how to do that watch this here for the Rotorworkz HFE frames I did. Explains how to trim off the tabs..
