Just thought you guys maybe interested, I have a foamy that flies the book and is pretty much crash resistant it was designed by my brother who frequents RC Groups. Its going to be the subject for a magazine build and plan in the near future for a UK publication. Its called a Maniac and is built in EPP foam which is miles more durable than depron you just need to stiffen it in the right places with carbon strip. Here's my latest version my old one is getting tatty but has survived a year of abuse, how long does your depron foamies last ??. He also has BiPlane varient of it called an Infinion that has a very big following on RCGroups with free plans and build features. Check it out Bulletproof foamies that work.

He should sell kits, some people like me cant even build a GWS properly :(

There is no plan to produce a kit but believe me its not that hard to make you guys just need one sharp model knife some 3mm EPP foam carbon strip and UHU POR glue. Then a 10A esc, AXI motor, 3 mini servos and mini RX and you are flying. My brother is making a few different ones for this magazine feature he can knock one up in no time at all.
The beauty of these models they will fly outdoors as long as the wind is reasonably still and you can fly em in a really confined area. They fly so slowly as well so they are idea as a small park flyer on hire your local sports hall for an Hour with some buddies.
The Maniac plan will be in a the magazine with another two other models of his design. Being a CAD draughtsman I'm drawing up the Plans for the magazine.
Give it go these things are so crash resistant you will never look at a Depron plane again.
Cheers
Glenn

So is the fuselage a box construction?
And I need a source for the 3mm EPP. But a kit would be still nicer. :)

The fuselage is box construction but it tapers to nothing at the top and to the back. It has a EPP spacer midway with a tiny carbon strip for reinforcement. This makes it really stiff with little weight penalty believe me this plane has been through the wars a depron model would have gone to meet its maker a long time ago.
Sorry no way a kit is going to be produced unless my bro gets an offer he cant refuse.

Just in case anybody is interested the Maniac is pencilled in to be published in the March edition of the UK magazine RCM&E, there will be a build write up and a free plan giveaway (drawn by yours truely :YeaBaby:).
This will be the first of a possible three model run the next release will be an foamie Biplane with small hacker power. I've just finished the plans last night release date not yet know our kid is doing the build write up.
This one will be of Depron construction and super lightweight design for extreme 3d. I'll pass on more details when/if I'm allowed to ;).
Cheers

Did you mod the plans as we discussed?

OK the magazine is out FAME AT LAST :YeaBaby: but my brother gets the credit.
They have played around with my plan a bit so its now a double sided A1 which is a shame because the parts wont fit so they are now broken up making tracing a bit harder
I expect lots of Maniacs to be hitting the UK skies pretty soon.
Another two foamies to follow both Biplanes this time.
Cheers

I wonder if Borders or my LHS might have a copy of the magazine. They both carry a pretty good selection of import model mags. With Glenn's permission I could scan the plans and post a pdf.
Actually, we would probably need the publishers permission as well which may not happen seeing they are in the biz of selling magazines.....

We will need the name of the magazie first and I don't think he gave it to us.

It was in his first post on this page. I am going to check my LHS tomorrow to see if they carry it.

Sorry guys I forgot to get back to my post
For our friends across the water the magazine is a UK publication called RCM&E (Radio Control Models & Electronics) The plan was in March 2008 edition.

As for spec on the equipment in it Im using 3 x Hitec HS-55 servos, Castle Creations CC-10 ESC , Brushless motor AXI 2204/54 and 730 mah 2 cell TP lipos.
Its a cheap build and will last as it is very crash resistant.:YeaBaby:
There are two more FOAMIE models to come in the next months to follow.
Cheers
