View Full Version : Dragonus II Setup / Trim Question

I just finished building the Dragonus II following Bob's videos religiously. I have checked and double-checked head setup, blade pitch, etc.
I spun up the copter last night and everything seemed really rock solid. No vibration, tail was planted, no movement in the heli at all. I continued to spin up to mid-stick on the throttle (0 pitch) and everything was great. When I began to give more throttle and get some positive pitch, the heli got light on the skids and slid left. Obviously, my checking and double-checking wasn't thorough enough. My question is, where do I begin to diagnose the problem? Does this sound like a swash issue (not being completely level at mid-stick), or the flybar is not setup properly, or a blade pitch issue, etc.?
Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks, Matt

The helicopter will slide left, it is from the tail rotor thrust, this is normal. You have to counter with a little right stick. What needs to happen is the helicopter should be hovered around chest high so it is out of ground effect, and trimmed. If you are not at the level of flying that well then maybe having someone who can fly well trim it out. You want it trimmed for stable hovering with minimal input, not trimmed to avoid the left hand slide on lift-off. Ground effect exagerates the left hand slide, so it really needs to be up and out of it. After awhile, you get to the point where you are subconsciously correcting for the slide on liftoff and it becomes a non-issue...

HI Jason,
Thank you very much for the information. I never thought of the tail rotor thrust.
Since I spent a lot of time on the build, I didn't want to try to hover it if my setup was way off.
Thanks again.
